Awesome collection Royce. Would love to see over your shoulder while you are using them the right way.
Thanks Kevin,
They are a primitive, accurate and versatile tool that can be used for many applications, circle scribe, divider, protractor, square or rule.
There is something about the old ways of lay out that is interesting and fulfilling.

I have a Starrett with micro adjust, and a cheap one with a pencil at one end. I've just used them for basic layout for woodworking and even on fabric. More convenient and adjustable than a string or a piece of wood and a couple of nails.
Even though I run 3D CAD all day, and outsource work to CNC routers and machine shops, I really prefer the hand layout methods myself and still find them quite relevant in the woodshop and fabrication shop.

I'm in awe. I've never even come across one set that would compare to your most lowly set. How you've managed to accumulate all those is beyond me but it's great to see they've found a home where they will not only be appreciated but also used in style and precision. Thanks for posting! That there is real treasure.

Thanks 2ool,
Just finished up a 7 foot graduated white oak beam for a nice Starrett set.
1/4" increments cut with a electric hot knife, then hand stamped the numerals.
Looks like it could have been made way back when.

Here is a nicely designed set, with a unique fine adjust.
Super nice lines and finish.
The only marking is pat apld for.
I would be interested in who made it, if anybody knows?

This trammel was missing the clamp shoe, so cut one from navel brass today and a beam from sapele.
