Alrighty, well, one pandemic and child later I'm finally able to get back to the garage hobby... hobbies? And hopefully these photos work a bit better... So, to backtrack, these are a couple photos (I don't have many) of how it was when we moved in; a two car garage with a separate studio space with bathroom. This was the garage:
And the studio (in the winter, when it was used as cold storage for the bikes when in disuse):
When we moved in, the studio was being used as a teenager's bedroom, I think? Maybe a super cheap AirBnB? I don't know. But we didn't need it whatsoever, so I tore the wall down between the two with the aim of creating a 2-car garage + shop space.
And this, to fast forward to today, is the result. It's a bit of a strange entry on account of the construction having originally been that aforementioned 2-car garage. Since the electrical service came up through the original exterior wall that the studio was added too, when I knocked the wall between the garage and studio down, I had to keep a stub wall there to the left, or break up my pad to move the services... so I have this kinda nice little entryway. Coats and hats on the rack to the left, quickie maintenance records on the right, just to help me keep track. I've got a terrible memory.
In case it made no sense, there's that electrical panel that forced me to keep some of that wall. The man door there's the original door to the garage structure, which I've just screwed shut. At some point in the future I want to tear that whole door out, and replace the garage door with a wider door that opens outward entirely and doesn't reduce my overhead clearance as I've got grandiose plans of a cantilevered four-post platform that can be winched up and store three motorcycles above three more on the ground.
One of many things I WANTED to do a "what did you do in the garage" post about, but couldn't find the time. I'm a terrible carpenter, but I can think of no better coat hanger than a set of titanium Aprilia valves. I've not quite come up with a use for the pistons yet.
Easily the best part of the garage, the bathroom's still got some work yet to go before it's done, but has absolutely ruined me for garages without commodes down the road. Seriously. It's the absolute best. No hot water, but I do intend to try one of those little few-gallong electric under-sink heaters? Just for a bit of warm water when washing hands. But oh man, it's already a throneroom, but when I'm done it'll be properly fit for a king.
But even in its relatively uncivilized state, I thought it prudent to prioritize at least a little bit of culture.
And finally... the whole thing! There's honestly more than I can even remember; I've got photos somewhere of the entire space cleared out and me grinding cement for the Nohr-S a few years back; when we first moved in. That was a few motorcycles and cars ago, now... I've since learned a LOT about density, and am really enjoying making a practical space that makes the absolute most of the frankly ample space I've got. I figure this post serves as a reasonable second introduction though, and hope to keep the thread updated with stuff around the garage as I go! I'm hoping to tackle the lighting next, but as one can see, there are more than a few projects going on right now!
