I put the final coar of paint on the 'base' of my new bar in the garage....

What did I notice? The smell.....or lack there of.

I had an old free standing work bench that I tore apart and re-used the wood....old work bench means work stains...like oil and other things. It had a smell....once I painted it...the smell started to go away.....mmmmmmmmmmm

Now that I think back....I remember how my old garage smelled with the open and exposed wall studs....and I remember how well it held the dust and dirt....

In my new garage there is no exposed bare lumber....everthing is covered with drywall and/or painted.....it smells so much better...not to mention, a whole lot easier to clean....and when my lovely wife brings my meal into the garage along with a nice cold beer (I knew there was a reason she was a keeper), I can smell and enjoy the food....

I see a lot of guys with bare unpainted expose OBS on their walls.....

Paint it....you will be glad.....

BTW...I now have a good reason why OSB is not better than drywall...

I have a wood burner in my garage so I get "that' smell. I did have a certain gear oil smell over the winter, that took a few days to clear out.

Unpainted drywall also ***** up everything. Painting the drywall in my garage made a huge difference in reducing dust, odors and insects as well as increasing light.

Yeah one thing i can recommend from experience is to take the time and paint before you move! It will increase light, reduce smell and clean easier.

I just finished the drywall in my garage that I installed almost 25 years ago, what a difference! I also installed six new Lithonia 4 foot 4 bulb wraps. The difference in brightness is amazing and the whole thing smells new too.
