Hi All,
Its been a great day...but first a short intro.
I'm new here, and have enjoyed this fantastic forum since I broke my old Record 2 vise two weeks ago, and needed inspiration for next purchase.
I'm a toolmaker and design engineer from Skandinavia, Denmark. In my spare time I'm working on bikes, roadbikes, cars etc. when time allows.
I'm pretty convinced that most things you can fix yourself with creativity and and open mind.

Just today I picked up my new old vise; a Record no75 "steel" for like 35£. Its in pretty good shape, except for Jaws that are messed up.
Good thing is that they came right of, so just needs some attention.
Fixing Jaws will be first project, next will be finish. I'm split between original red, Record blue or maybe waxed.

Input and advice are very welcome.

Excellent. I think it needs to be red.

Record specifically made the Imp, 74, and 75 red to differentiate the steel vices from their blue cast iron vices.

If you went blue, you'd be downgrading something special.

Well done again on a great score

Thanks, now my profile are updated.
jipps:
Yes, its probably going to be red.
I appreciate keeping things original, in respect of the thoughts of the designer.
Its just that my 30years with Record vises has been with the blue colour.
Anyway, now I didnt buy a machinist/engineering vise this time :)

Already started planning to get new jaws made :)
