Only things I have seen out of B&D for the last 10 or so years have been junk. This looks like just more junk to me.. ****** shame since I used to buy a lot of B&D tools because their quality was higher.. I still have a drill and circular saw that I've had for 25+ years..

Interesting. A friend at work showed me that B&D Gyro driver. 
Not all of the B&D cordless drivers are weak (altho alot of them are).
Used to use a Versapak and it had some decent torque.
It is a shame, the old tan Black and Decker tools were well-made. I still have a tan B&D router that runs great. The new B&D cordless drills ****, too easy to burn em up.

Yet another gimmick tool from B&D just like most of them.
Buy it, toss it in the junk drawer in teh kitchen, use it 5 times and sell it off at the garage sale 5 years later.
It's sad 'casue I currently have many B&D tools from teh 60's, 70's and 80's that are gems. Built like tanks.
Their heavy as fark rechargable screwdriver with no ability buy new batteries or replace the ones in it killed it for me in the 90's.
Buy it and then toss it mentality. B&D became the forefathers of disposable tools. I'm still sad over it.
Dumb people do...LOLOLOLOL.
Again, B&D is the KING of kitchen junk dwr. tools anymore. Undisputed, if you frequent garage sales in teh summer time.

B&D is too busy buying up and destroying tool companies to focus on quality tools.
My thought as well -- a simple switch is too hard too use? This thing looks like a case of needless complexity (and with that, higher failure rates)
Just a gimmick to sucker in people who rarely use tools.
I'll bet it's lower cost than a mechanical switch.

The old 50's B & D tools were comercial and top of the line. In the late 60's they started making a home line of tools and they are all ****! The company has bought out Dewalt for the name and while the radial arms saws were top notch the power tools only have cheap bushings and are all over priced. They now own Delta and Porter Cable. The quality of those is going down and the company is dropping many of the good machines and tools. They no longer make the old Delta 14 inch band saw which was the world standard for 60 years. They have dropped many power dools like the Porter cable electric hand planer All the door hangers use it. Nothing on the marked comes close to it. I have picked up 4 old ones just to have them. I have 11 Delta machines and 14 Jet and Power matic woodwroking machines. My Jet and Power Matic mahines are much better than my Delta
The Jet were a cheap knock off in the beginning but they have been making great equipment for years now. I hate Black and Decker. I will never buy one of the products or a brand they own now. They have destroyed America's best brands. 40 years ago I trye thier home line of power tools and they did not last 3 months. They are worse now than then. Harbour Freight is better and they are the king of junk but some of it is good junk. LOL

Now there's a solution looking for a problem if I've ever seen one.
Those old-fashioned switches and triggers are so darn hard to master.
But, given the mentality of many of the young folks in this country, this thing just may sell (and not just to wives buying it for their husbands for Father's Day).

It's an interesting concept. You'd have to try it to see how well it works. Black and Decker's implementation is probably as awful as their build quality, so not much hope there.
If Festool or Bosch had come out with it, a lot of people here would sending in $$ as pre-orders.

When B&D came out with Dewalt hand power tools, they were all the B&D professional series with yellow bodies. The sheep came out in flocks. I made the mistake of buying one of their early cordless drills (guess I was a sheep). It's one of the few tools that I've given away because I hated it so much.

Back in the early 80's Black&Decker bought a German company called Elu. Black&Decker pretty much took the Elu tools as-is and renamed them Black&Decker Professional - these tools had dark gray bodies and generally were very good. I still have an old cordless drill from that period that after all these years the batteries still holds a charge.

My friend just bought one and brought it over for me to check out. He's really geeking out over it but he spends his day turning tiny screws. The technology is actually pretty cool. It might be Okay if you're doing a lot of light duty work.

B&D has been putting out nothing but gimmick tools lately. Like the battery operated adjustable wrench!
Hell the article does not even call them a tool company anymore. They are now a "Household appliance company".
Within a year people will start cleaning out their kitchen junk drawers and these will be at garage sales for a dollar.

I picked one up on a whim to replace a couple ancient, fixed-battery cordless drivers I use for my electronic work. Functionally, the gyro works well, a lot better than I expected. It's the only small-bodied, low torque driver I know of with variable speed. I fit them with long (6 inch) driver bits in most cases when delving into electronic gear with lots of screws, and I've used it tearing into dashboards and interiors. There's no clutch, but it's not needed. After a while I developed a technique for holding the thing that allowed it to "recoil" in my hand to shut it off when the fastener was tight. Would I use it for heavy duty work? No. I put it in the same league as the Skil/Bosch Ixo lithium driver, which I also have. Roughly the same shape and form factor, but more convenient.
Internally, it's well made, and fairly rugged overall. There is the gimmick factor, but if you work within the gimmick, so to speak, it's a new way of controlling motor speed and direction.
