Why do they have multiple listings of the same items? Like say you want a particular tool they will have it listed more than once with the same description and price but different part number.

It would be the "same" product from a different supplier. Generally, they're only selling one of those part numbers in a store at a time (though old stock may have a different number).

I've noticed it too. One will also have tons of reviews little on the other. They go thru so many part numbers on their inventory probably just not keeping up or have not migrated/merged them together.

Their website is...uh, blah

Sometimes there is a bigger difference between the multiple part numbers than others. They should be reviewed separately. There is sometimes enough difference thst you really want one rather than the other(s). If you pull up the owners manuals and look at the parts lists, you can sometimes see the differences. Hopefully people are reviewing their purchases under the correct number. One glaring example was a three cylinder, single stage air compressor that was sold interchangeably with a two cylinder, two stage for rhe same price. They had different specs and were not at all alike. One of the 20 ton hydraulic shop presses has a welded frame and the other is bolted together.

Different manufactures. Just found this out yesterday, always wondered why different part numbers for the same item. Like stated, sometimes one will be a lot better than the other.

Yes to all of this.

Years ago, the part number (or rather it's extension) was related to the price. They'd advertise an item in different catalogs at different prices, and if you knew the right code, you could ensure that you were getting the best price on a phone in order. I miss that. ;)
