A "hard" deal to beat

Elroy tries to make a regular visits to the local Pawn Shop as you never know what kind of good deal may be available. Last night found this little "jewel". Elroy had to really exercise his poker face when the dumb *** clerk said one dollar.

Elroy's latest $1 Pawn Shop procurement:

It looks like a dressing tool (i.e., for a surface grinder), but the configuration of the tip looks like it has a specific purpose.

I suppose the gouge near the tip could have been someone's "oops" during setup.

That tool can be placed on a surface grinder, with a magnetic base or otherwise. You would run the grinding wheel across it several times to make the grinding surface true again after it had been used to surface something.

I only took machine shop in high school, but we had a surface grinder and remember using one of those to dress the wheel.

I have a surface grinder in the shop where I work and use it maybe 2x a week. The diamond on it is one that for some reason cannot be shaped into anything worthy of jewelery, but remains the hardest thing known to man, so it has almost no value. The tool itself was a great buy Elroy.

Great deal for a buck, but not worth too much if you don't have a surface grinder. If you have a steady hand you can use it to dress off the wheel of a bench grinder. I have about a half dozen of those in my toolbox at work.

Unless you want a true sharp stone in which case it is extremely valuable. Actually, Elroy considers this diamond as more valuable that the one on wife's finger. As least this one does something useful.

The tool itself was a great buy Elroy.

That's what Elroy thought as well. And for a buck it's a FANTASTIC deal.

I use something very similar on my grinding wheels,but I will give you a great big you **** darn those things cost me a lot of money,but they do an outstanding job!

Elroy better hope wifey doesn't see this post. While I understand his sentiment, the diamond on wifey's finger should lead to a steady *** life and dinner at least a few times a week. While Elroy may think the tool is more useful, the diamond on wife's hand is priceless in value.

I recall when I was taking my first machine shop classes that the college couldn't supply these and if you wanted to use the surface grinder you had to bring your own diamond dresser. My father had one and I used to borrow his.

I have one like that. It is a Christisten a Hughes company as in Howard Hughes and the diamond is in great shape as well.
