Hi members, thanks for letting me join the group! My name is John, but it seems most can't remember a four letter name, or something you sit on in the restroom, so the mutt was born! Now that formalities are out of the way I am a auto mechanic here in east Atlanta Ga, and not to toot my own horn but iI am pretty good if I must say "MY HEAD JUST SWOLLEN UP HAHA". Joking aside I don't really know what to say about myself, so how about if you'd like to know something ask and ill answer.

Welcome to Garage Journal. Do you specialize in a particular kind of car? Which are the best, which the worst?
I actually work on anything that runs on gasoline. I'm not particular on whats best to work on, because at the end of the day every vehicle has basically the same function and procedure to repairing them given minor techniques in the repair process. As far as "WORST" if I see another Hemi, Hellcat, ScatPac with either a burnt out transmission, or has a blown head gasket I might LOSE it! I think the "KIDS" that are bringing these cars in should have at least the basics in checking fluids and doing regularly scheduled maintenance's. I have check out 3 just this week and 1 of them hasn't had an OIL change in 8 months. And they wonder why the car is knocking.

Apologies for being long winded.

Hi John! Welcome to the GJ from an Atlanta native - specifically College Park and Fayetteville. I left Georgia 21 years ago.
Atlanta is a great place to visit (still have some great friends there), but I wouldn't want to live there.

I also love working on cars, but I hated it when trying to do it for a living. I'm very happy to be out of that business.

Same crowd doing takeovers and keeping GSP in hot pursuit?

I doubt your missing anything here, and I can sit there and lose myself messing around with vehicles all together, now my 8 year old thinks he knows more than I do lol. But as it seems right now My youngest son might have that same feeling for the cars. About 5 years ago I was helping my buddy "The Older Fat Guy in The Pic" open his shop. I didn't even care to get paid half of the time because I fell in love with the convenience of the lifts, space, I didn't have to be on the ground, but after 3 years of getting excuse my language but **** money weekly "sometimes" for doing 90% of the work while he sits there and talks on the phone and messes around on EBAY for hours on end I kinda missed doing things at my house, which is what I am currently doing at the moment. What lead you to leave HOTLANTA?

Welcome to the forum John. Do you plan on building a shop at home?
Honestly, I would love to have my own shop, or even a big enough building behind a house other than this townhouse I'm in, but Social Security Disability kinda don't allow me to do the things that my mind says I can do. If that makes any sense.

Welcome to the Forum. I once thought I wanted to be an Auto Mechanic but realized that I did not like having **** fall in my face while working under dirty cars.

I have become familiar with disabilities, but I find ways to compensate for my lack of strength and youth.

It's never too late to start tinkering! But don't get me wrong and honestly I'm not boasting, but in most cases weather its snatching an engine out or a simple oil change I'm either just as fast or faster doing the job with one hand verses others working with two.

Just a little info about my ??disability?? at the age of one I was subject to carbon monoxide poisoning from a 77 Duster, which left me partially paralyzed on my entire left side. And now I just make jokes about it.

Maybe I should put that in my BIO??

Welcome to Garage Journal John! I lived in East Atlanta near Grant Park in the 1970s during my teen years and worked in an Amoco station at the corner of Moreland Ave and Custer Ave for a few years before I left to join the Navy. That area has changed completely and is hard to recognize some of our old hangouts these days.

And still to today it’s ever changing! Are you currently still in Ga?

Welcome aboard! Glad to see another Georgian on here. I grew up in Tucker next door to Decatur. We now live up I-85 near Road Atlanta. Looking forward to seeing your comments and projects. Are you active in around Atlanta with any car events and cruise-ins?

I noticed Zesto's was still there on Moreland Ave on my last visit, but that has been a couple of years ago. I live in Alabama these days, but still have family scattered around Georgia in Hiram, Madison, Millegeville, Barnesville and Forsyth.

Zesto's is gone, sadly.

I used to live walking distance to there (Inman Park) back around '08-'10. I'd occasionally wander over to L5P for a burger and beer at The Vortex or some such. Wandered into Zesto's once or twice too.

We used to frequent the one at the corner of United (Confederate) Ave and Moreland Ave after school. Are they all closed now?
