Hey guys Ill be putting my posts up soon and I was going to use a 2' auger bit on my tractor and drill to a 4' depth. Im figuring that will take under a half a yard of concrete, is this to much concrete? I was going to pour 80# bags, but after I started figuring Im coming up with about 25 bags per hole. So needless to say I either put less concrete or call for a truck to deliver premixed. I was hoping someone who had just put there posts in could tell me how much they used. Thanks in advance

I thought it was just put some gravel in the bottom and pour 6" of concrete in the bottom let it harden up, sit the post on top of that and back fill.

mailbox post?
:lol_hitti yeah I will be building my garage on mailbox posts!! Sorry they will be 12' 6x6s, I am down here in Florida so Im in a 130 mph wind zone. I was going to put gravel in the bottoms of holes for drainage and put a couple pieces of rebar through for upheaval

I have a builder friend in Maine who builds pole barns. He uses tractor auger for 2 foot hole 42 inches deep and backfills w sand/gravel mix............no problems after 30 years and biggest barn is 90x50. He puts 1 bag of sacrete in hole bottom as a footing

good luck

Ive always done one 80lb bag for larger things. You just need a base that wont pull out. The backfilling is what should hold it plum.

Does it have to pass inspection? I would think that there would be standards for your area.
