Thanks for your input. I have 6 inch duct above a drop ceiling in a small 10x10 room in my garage. Id like to put in a heating outlet in the ceiling panel. Above this room is the dinning room it has four registers and dampers. the room stays very warm even thought the dampers are mostly closed so I don't think redirecting some of the heat will be an issue.
I have been looking at HD Lowes and others. I have tried to explain what I'm looking for to the guys that work there. Most of the solutions require removal of the duct. Googling does not seem to help either since i don't know what to call it. Every thing I find looks to be the most complicated way to do it. Im thinking if there isn't an easier way I should invent something. this can't be this complicated….help
at the moment (for the last several years) i have the panel off and a small hole hacked into the duct. this works well but looks like ****.

Plus a short piece of flex and a ceiling register of your choice to fit your drop ceiling.

FWIW 99% of the time I would simply add another run off the main trunk for the room.

If the room is in the garage then it shouldn't be heated with ductwork from the house and is a code violation to do so in most places as it provides a path for fumes from the garage to enter the house and a path for fire to get from the garage to house quicker.
