I am having touble with my 1990 Cadallic Brougham. I have a hard start the mornings but throughout the day its fine. It also has stumbled on me a few times. My ignition is fine. I seem to think its my accelerator pump!
I have Rochester Q-Jet. How easy is it to change the pump. I was thinking of unbolting the air horn and removing the pump , then installing a new pump and then reinstalling the air horn. Is this correct? Are there any things that might get loose and then I am not albe to reinstall the air horn?
Thanks in advance.

Looks like they have carbs/FI in the same year! I guess the question is which motor do you have?

I had a 1978 with the 425 and Q-jet. This is your lucky day because I know exactly how to change it. :D

1. You'll see a roll pin that holds the pump arm onto the bowel cover. Slide that pin out with a small roll pin punch. A regular pin punch will work too. Drive that pin out far enough to clear the pump arm. If the roll pin makes contact with the air horn, cut it with side cutters and then drive what's left of the pin out.

2. Remove the screw holding the hanger for the secondary metering rods and lift the meter rod hanger with the metering rods out.

3. There's a little screw that holds the choke arm to the choke plate; remove it.

4. Remove all the bowel cover screws and carefully lift the bowel cover off.

Note: The roll pins are 7/64 X 3/4L. You might need a new one.

Yes, it's a carb. This is a 5.0 engine which is from Oldsmobile. I beleive this is the last year for carburator engines. The 5.7 engine is FI.

That's awesome. 1 hour and 12 minutes later, you know how to do an unknown job.

I wish I had access to such timely info at work.
