Dear Pedro,

OK I don't know what to do now. I sent you the broken tools on the 28th of November and haven't heard from you and can't get a hold of you.

I tried to call your Snap on truck number, but they said you weren't working there anymore.

I have sent you private messages about what I sent you to warranty, but you have not replied to any.

From your profile it says you haven't logged on to Garage Journal since the 22nd of December. I don't know if you are just lurking now.

Anyway, if you could please give Walter (The Snap on guy that I got when I called your old number) the tools I sent you so he can warranty them for me, or mail the broken tools back to me, please do so. I enclosed enough stamps to cover return shipping.

I just would like to get something back.

Enclosed is a picture of what I mailed you:

Just called the number above, and "Walter" said that Pedro is no longer with SO. Give him a call with your info, and he said he will try to help you out.

I called Walter and got his Email address and sent him a picture of what I sent to Pedro. He said he would try to get a hold of Pedro to see if he still had these.

Since I had bought from Pedro, I didn't think there would be any issues.... Pedro agreed to warranty my broken stuff.

Now at this point, I just wish Pedro would mail back my old stuff. I enclosed enough stamps to cover the return shipping.

I'm not holding out much hope of getting anything back.

We'll see.

I'm not mad, just disappointed in Pedro, the shipping was around $17 and like I said, I bought and enclosed enough stamps for the shipping back to me. If he couldn't do it, I wish he would have just returned the package to sender and emailed me or something. :(

Wow I started to start a thread the other day to see if any one had heard from him. I was wondering how his ankle was doing.

The same old Snap on story I've heard a hundred times, too bad but you are not alone. You have pics and those tools should be in some ones hands that has that truck.

I got a nice Email back from Walter (the new Snap-on Guy) and he said he printed out the picture and is actually going to try to meet with Pedro to get them back.

Quite frankly, I am very surprised with the effort Walter is making. I hope this works out.

I hope it works out for you; seems the tool truck business is tough, I have a feeling the percentage of people who are able to make a living out of it, maybe pretty low...

LOL! Are you serious about getting those tools replaced? Everything is scrap. Then when Snap On doesn't warrenty them you'll come back here and complain about how bad they are....

Everything there looks like it's been abused by being run over with a train.

Where did you find that stuff? A pawnshop by the train tracks?

all but two of the screwdrivers should be warranted with no questions.......

even the two screwdrivers would be warranted by a good snap on dealer....

wtf :headscrat

I don't know why you speak as if you know me.

Pedro saw a picture of the long screwdriver and the large socket on this board and agreed to warranty those. I also told him that if he had issues with replacing anything I sent him to just return them.

I hope it improves your disposition and righteousness to know that I will probably not get anything back and I am out $34 in shipping costs.

Have a nice day.

I see items in wore shape every day in shops where the tools are used.

They break they bend I don't care what the name is. I paid three to six times as much for the name and the service. I expect them to keep their side of the bargain. The hoops you have to jump through after paying the cost is my main complaint with Snap on.

Clearly you have never had any Snap-on dead blow hammers from 10-15 years ago. I have had several, and guess what they looked just like the two he pictured because the hammers literally deteriorated over time. It took no abuse for those to end up that way, the material just failed on it's own. True, and no chemicals were involved with mine going south and I bet those two are the same story as mine. But as I said, if you never had older Snap-on deadblow hammers you could not have known that.

As far as the rest of the tools, I see no issue that rates your response there either. Perhaps your shorts are ridin up a bit or something, unwind man! :bounce:

Their habit of falling apart like that killed me on Dead blows for years. It's down right scary when they crumble in your hands. Kinda like the one Snap on screwdriver handles.

Yeah, I have a bunch of the 1st generation snapon handle screwdrivers/tools: some of that era have held up fine, other hand "shrunk", some crumble and others have broken in half when I used them.... the ones that broke in half had gooey funny smelling stuff inside the middle of the handle. My dealer has refused to warranty them; I wonder if I sent them to snapon if they would send me new ones?

i wonder if solvents or chemicals caused that problem, thus the switch to tenite?

i do have a set of cornwell's (i think may have been scourced from crescent) that the handles melted in chemdip.

I bet a decent dealer would warranty them. Snap-on was aware of this problem, or so I was told anyway.

it wasn't just snap on.........MAC and MATCO as well........i believe the older ones were stanley compothane. all of them would do that .

I forgot, they all came from the same source. I just had bad luck with the Snappys. I preferred the old handle design though.

I think it was just a bad mix in the compound. I saw a few that hardly been used just crumble away. Others lasted for years.

Seems like he's not to far off, since you probably snagged most of the stuff from the flea-market, pawn shop, etc--based on your own post history of this activity. I guess I'm not surprised you're having such a hard time getting this stuff replaced based on the condition of the tools and the fairly common opinion that Snap on dealers don't concern themselves with warranty service for people other than regular customers.

In any case, Snap on warranty seems like a real hassle especially considering the price and delays due to stock, etc. I'll stick with Craftsman for now, lots of stores open 8+ hours a day, 7-days a week as long as they're in business. Never had a single issue getting tools replaced at Sears.

The yellow screwdriver which is beyond abused and rusted can be seen in your post here bragging about your $20 flea-market score: http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24188

Personally I wouldn't warranty something in that condition unless I knew the history and origin of the tool and knew for sure it was never abused.

the condition had nothing to do with the problem getting them warranteed. as BWP stated pedro saw the condition and agree to warrantee them. the real issue is that a dealer either quit or was let go before completeing the warranty transaction. pay attention :headscrat

Just the opposite for me. I have to beg to get tools replaced at sears. The snap-on lady doesn't even ask how it broke, just hands a new one over. Also, warrantying a tool from Snap-On means going outside the door to work on thurs/fri/sat (there all 3 days) and having a tool in 5 minutes (or calling and having her come on an off day), vs. driving halfway across town, dealing with the 16 year olds with 3 kids in the mall, then getting the 17 year old pimply faced pukestain at the counter to warranty a tool, because he knows you broke a screwdriver in a paint can, not a screw.

When I worked in a shop I never had a Snap ON guy ask me one thing about a broken tool, he just handed me a new one. Now I don't have a Snap On guy but I have friends who have shops where I can leave them to get replaced or fix, no questions asked or sometimes I see the truck and just stop. They just replace the blade of a broken screwdriver without question. I generally buy some 1/4 bits but....

Is Snap-On only warranted to the original purchaser?

If so, there are millions of Snap-On used tools way over valued.
