A mystery to me

I have a leak in my cooling system. The bottle gets empty. It leaks and then I stop seeing coolant on the ground after a while. But it never overheats and the temperature gauge never moves off where it should be. I know the gauge and sending unit are working.How can a cooling system lose a substantial amount of coolant but not overheat?

Sounds to my like the bottle itself is what is leaking most likely it is cracked .
