Just joined after a while of lurking.

About to start a 24' X 30' metal building on slab west of Ft Worth. Give me a place to park some toys and tools. House is 4 years old. Front of shop will be bricked and trimmed to match the house.

Thanks to the ideas I have already gathered here...and may more come to me.

FYI...Google SketchUp is great

I found out this weekend that my neighbor's 50 HP John Deere isn't strong enough to pull out an 8" Cedar Elm. :D I have about 5 of them that need to go.

Guess I'll have to start digging around the roots and try again later.

Met with the builder today. Everything should be a go...has a backlog of 5-6 weeks. The metal building business must be good here in Texas! :Twitch:

Only issue I am going to have is getting concrete to the site. I don't want the truck on my current driveway (built with mesh). I may have to speak to my neighbor behind me as he has a horse pasture that could be used as the path to the site. If not, it's $800 for a concrete pumper! :scared:

1/3 has been put down. Design set.

Only big issue I have is getting concrete poured. Guy is wanting to rent a pump truck ($800!!) I may talk to my neighbor to the East and ask to drive in on his pasture and chute it over the fence. I don't like the lidea of paying a bunch of money to make their job easier.

Old Ft. Worth boy here. Aledo is a nice area, used to cut though there going to Pate from Weatherford. Nice layout. You drive by here on the the way to TT apparently.

Be sure you start a thread in the Gallery so we can keep up.

Yes sir...I know Merkel well. Grew up in Lubbock, now working out here in the west-o-plex. I tend to wander off I-20 and up towards 180/380/or even 114 for a nice scenic drive.

Lived up in the Boyd/Cottondale area for a while too. Still country around there.

They marked utilitites yesterday. Weird to see my phone line run all the way around my house and out the backyard. I'd have never guessed that one!

I'm guessing we are 2-3 weeks out...supposed to get alot of rain the next few days though.

Try cutting the roots a few feet out from the tree either with an axe or with the blade of the front end loader and then get the front end loader under the tree and try to pry it. Just be aware of the load you're putting on the front tires. Hydraulics are a wonderful thing...........Jack.

Got a break from the much-needed rain and it sounds like they are coming this morning to lay out the forms and dig trenches.

It's go time! :rocker:
