Ever pull a big block chevy, out of a 1972 dump truck, at a salvage yard. Real muddy here in April, with some snow here and there. Those old cores, make for good HP engine builds.

My Harbor Freight tools clank, in my heavy tote boxes. I plunk the 200 lb. plus boxes, on the muddy ground, you can hear a squish under their wt. as the mud gives way.

I pull out tool by tool, coming off the old fasteners, with GLOBS of grease and dirt, on them. I have an emply tote, that I throw the tools in as I use them. They all clank together, and try to rub the finish off one another.

OOPS!, dropped a socket in the snow, better find it! OOPS! some melted snow is now in the tote, with the greasey tools, oh well. I hear the sand gring between the clanking tools. With the engine on the hook, and in the back of my truck, I'm tired.

The empty tote is now full of greasy, wet, sandy, tools, with thick greasy fingerprints all over them. Later at the shop, I will clean them off and put them in their respective travel box. As I clean the ratchets, I must blow the sand out of the mechanism, before reassembly and re-lube. I need a pick, to get the heavy goo, out of the screws, and socket crevices. Yes I will buy Taiwan tools for this.

You are welcome to come visit me WITH YOUR TOOLS, and we will use them instead. Pulling classic, nickel block, V8's in the yard is FUN.!!!!

I sure am glad they were my Harbor Freight tools, and not my Snap-on/Cornwell ones.

I think you are ok Merkava, but your tool care is over the top, in the hard knock life of tools. There are tools for every occasion. Guess I'll call the Asian ones, the working girls!:lol_hitti

Billymade, I was thinking the same thing. A photo or two would go great along with that story.

Get a visual mentally, I go out to work, I don't have any photos. But this April, I will take some. They will be for the thread ( A Nightmare For Merkava,2, Taiwan Tools, Sometimes They Come Back!) horror to the max, chrome shredding :shocking:

I don't have the patience to go and try to deal with substandard tools whether I'm at the junkyard or at home in my garage. My two greatest pet peeves are extensions that fit sloppy with the sockets and plier jaws that don't meet together squarely.

I can definitely see the advantage of taking Asian tools to the junkyard though ... you don't have to stress over where they're at every second of the day.

If I did that, I'd have a second set of tools. (I have done some parts pulling and use my "away" bag.) When getting back to the garage, I would then use the first quality or high polish set. Grease and dirt are fine; tools won't get tossed in a heap at that point, and each one will be cleaned before being returned to the box.

I have the same dislikes. I'm trying to tell you, the "premium" HF stuff is not too bad, at all. Alot of the HF tools make me sick, but others have held up aok. I do have some Craftsman in the travel boxes too. Alot of Cornwell's Asian stuff, is no better than HF tools:confused:Sad but true. I like my nice stuff, to stay that way, a few steps down from your care, but the same principle. I have soo many tool needs, it's almost impossible to avoid some Asian tools. It's not financially viable to have ALL super tools. This board helped me see things this way.

I work here in scotland in the rain and muck on mostly agricultural work but my tools do get dirty but i make sure that they dont get piled up together because one it damages them for no reason and 2 i dont like stuff not being "squared up" .

I use my tools hard but i also respect and clean them daily

The fun part in ag work is being under a piece of equipment. The tool box/bag open beside you and a mess of mud, bigger then you and the box, falls on both of you.

You Asian tool owners will never understand the SNAP-ON tool owner concept. When you own SO you are making a profound statement. I deserve the best! I am a professional!

Using SO tools can be an orgasmic experience. The shiny chrome, the fit on the fastener, how it fits in your hand! You feel, every tool was engineered just for you.

Again that warm fuzzy feeling overtakes you again, and you say out loud " What the Hell was I thinking to spend this much on tools!"

Okay, what the hell is the problem y'all have with the way Merkava is, and his views on tools? You need to call him out/attack him/take the piss just because he likes top quality tools made in the USA? He'd never denied that other tools can do the job, but he prefers his chosen tools. Is that really a problem to you? You feel the need to say **** about it because his views are different to yours? What the hell difference does it make to you? Get over it, some of us are more precious about our tools, i use mine but never abuse them, go look through my toolbox and the contents are immaculate, just like his. He uses his tools, he knows his stuff and he likes to take good care of them. At the end of the day his will last longer.

As the saying goes, "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." and it's true, if you have such a problem with it, maybe you're not worth the time of day. If you came to my house and criticised how i am in regards to my tools i wouldn't bother with you.

Is this really what it's come to? Your differences make you feel the need to create a thread about how the way you treat your tools is a "nightmare" to him. Does he make threads about how his respects his tools, cleans them and looks after them is "alien" or "a nightmare" to you? Nope.

autoace, i don't know if you're in your 30s or 40s or whatever, but if you need a teenager to give you a lesson on growing up and how to treat other people, maybe you have some serious thinking to do.

Rant over. Get a f**king life.

I took it as a fun jab myself also. Especially when Merkava goes into other threads and mentions not buying HF ****, etc...

I am happy to say I own 1 Snap-On tool. Somehow scored it at a garage sale. A little 8mm wrench. :)

So, I am now a Snap-On owner. hehehe

Your over reacting. I agree with Merkava almost all the time. It was meant to be an amiable thread. He is funny(with the cardboard for his tools,etc.). He is picky and proud. I am pretty picky myself. Anyhow, I PM'd Merkava about the context. I'd be one of the first who defend him. The whole board knows his ways. We(I believe) grin, but with respect:thumbup: I am 37. This board wouldn't be the same without Merkava. I think you just misread my intentions, is all. If I have offended Merkava in any way...I submit my public apology:bowdown:

Moose, seriously dude. Why did you read it like an attack? I'm an English teacher for teenagers, and if one of my students responded as you did when asked about the "tone" or "purpose" of the piece, I'd fail them! :lol_hitti

I saw it as nothing but friendly ribbing as well, Merk is just as guilty about it as is most everyone else around here.

I think this thread was made with good intentions. Auto you don't need to apologize to anyone. But you got my respect for doing so.

People I see at the yard would use a torch and a wrecker to pull the engine.
