Hello everyone,

I've came across this site over the years and finally joined! Hello from Duluth, MN.

I'm hoping to gain some insight from whomever wants to share, as I am hoping to build a garage.
I've looked over some posts about garage size/dimensions (and will look more I'm sure).

I'm currently in the "getting estimates" stage, working with one builder as of now.
The current plan is for a 28'x28' with 9'' ceilings. It may be possible for higher ceilings, it will just cost me more.

Basically, this is what my budget allows from this builder/design. (Still waiting on an "official" estimate).
Ideally I would want to have a 3 car garage.

I currently have a 16x24 one car garage, so anything bigger will be a massive improvement.

Does the Garage Journal hivemind think it is possible to cram a third car into a 28'x28' garage?
This would be a someday...nothing I have now.

Looking forward to getting more ideas from you all.

Deep South, that's funny!

Yeah, a 9' ceiling is much shorter than I'm hoping for.
At the end of the day, I just need a 2 car garage.
BUT, as I'm only spending the money once... it's easier to build it on the front end than modify on the back end.

Welcome Chocobo,

I would recommend at least 32’ wide for 3 cars. Especially if any will be a full size pick up. Might be okay for 3 small cars, but still tight.

I appreciate the input!
I don't know if I have the space for a 32', but will talk about a wider garage with some other builders for sure.
Also, I'm hoping to use a 4 post lift in the future. I don't plan on having a vehicle as long as a truck (I wish though).

Scissors trusses will give you additional height in the center and should not cost a huge amount more.

Visited your town last Christmas for bentlyville Stayed next to the lift bridge. Very interesting area. Nice lady at the information center set my phone up to track the ships.

On the way to Bentlyville we spotted an ice castle parked behind the hockey arena and I asked the guy standing by it if he was gonna try fishing in there. He said no there is a ice fishing show in there this weekend. I asked if we could go he said sure but go in the front door.

Had a great time.
