I need to pick your brains about something.
Back in the mid to late 70s one of the Popular magazines,
Popular Science or Popular Mechanics ran a series of articles
that were also a contest if I remember correctly about microsized
workshops. Each month they'd feature a couple readers miniature
workshops. I really enjoyed reading the articles and seeing how guys
were fitting a lot of stuff into a small space.
Does anyone remember these write-ups and which magazine they
appeared in?

Thanks a bunch.

No help from me, but I would enjoy seeing them. I am always amazed how guys created something from very little. Sure it's easy if you have thousands of dollars and tons of room, but when you have limited space and tools the work is much harder and in may ways more impressive.

I don't remember any specific articles from that time frame, but they've done that sort of thing many times over the years (go back to the 1930s or 1940s and they often featured workshops that would fit in an apartment closet.)

Google has both magazines available online, all the way back to their beginning, so you can search around to see if you can find the articles you remember.

Great links Stuart!

Did a quick search on Popular Mechanics. November 1958 issue has a long article about how to set up a home workshop, not a "mini" one though. April 1983 has a neat little cabinet setup, fold-up bench etc, it might work in a smallish garage, or as a home office or hobby area in a small apartment.

There were others too, these were the only two I actually read.

The series of articles I'm looking for was published sometime after
1976. I know this because I was reading them in new issues that
I received in the mail, we had moved into the first house we bought
in the fall of 1976, and I built a mini workshop in the closet in my
first display room for my antique radio collection. So they had to be
sometime from '76 through about 1985.
They had a contest were readers submitted photos and detailed description
of their mini workshops, it lasted at least the better part of a year.
