A question about my new Ryobi planer

This may sound foolish to most but would somebody tell me wether or not the blue film on the base surface plate should be removed before use? or should the plate be removed all together revealing the cast iron base (full of holes). The manual doesn't mention anthing about it other then recommending it be kept smooth (waxed) clueless novice

remove it, it is protecting the base from rusting while in the store.
