Hello all,

I've been reading a lot of posts recently since I have finally gotten my very own
Shop, err garage I call a shop. This site and all your knowledgeable members has
been so helpful in my ever growing collection of vintage tools. I hope to be able
contribute back to a community which has been so helpful to me, oh and of course
I'd like to see the images of your old refurbished tools too!

I will get some pictures of the beauties I have found soon.

Hello world...

Cooltool: so where abouts in Canada do you live and you might go in your profile and post a city and province or area so other members will be able to know what part of the world you live if you have any questions. you sound like a positive person and very happy to have you join our group.

post pictures of some of your cool tools when you get time to put some color in your thread and here are a few of my favorites for you to look at.

welcome

CT: i never have figured out the best way to load pictures on my posts from my cell phone and i have internet data so i should be able to. i usually post from my laptop at home and i use the paperclip just above where you are writing your posts to post thumbnails of pictures saved to your laptop. then if member wants to view bigger picture than thumb all they have to do is double click pictures.

if you take pictures with your phone like i do now i email pictures to myself and then pull up emails and save pictures to my laptop to post later.

Nice name and even better than your little girl is doing great. how is the mom?

take care and get some rest because there will be a lot of sleepless nights in your future.

cheers

This is a test for uploading pictures, I found this 1,000lb 36inch diameter wet stone for sharpening just about anything from a pocket knife to a broadsword! it came mounted on a shaft with two babet bearings on either side run by a slow turning 110 motor with gear reduction box. Runs great couldn't resist even just as a conversation piece for 50bucks. The guy helped me load it in with his over head crane. I drove it to a shipyard I work out of and offloaded it. I managed to rent a trailer and get it set up in my garage shortly after. Has anyone seen a stone this big before?

The new baby is doing great sleep is a faint memory. Our plan was to keep our 2year old in daycare till the end of June but that isn't going exactly as planned, since all the kids there have croop and now of course she does too. But don't people say it's easier with two  however it's all more than worth the pain.

Ya the stone is a bit ridiculouse it's on wheels but I need to pry it with a 2X4 just to lift one side and then when the weight is on the tires they are so over burdoned they are pretty well flat. I guess I could replace what it does with a couple of small sharpening stones but it's so cool. I plan on rebabbiting the bearings since they seem worn. Throw in some better grease lines she gets a bit hot when it runs for a while. I'll take a few more pics of some stuff in my new shop when I get some time.

I had a quick question; the only way I can figure out how to get back to this post is by going through my profile and postings. I can't seem to find the feed manually so I can welcome new members myself. Any advice?

CT: best of luck with your little one's new health issue which can't be fun. we also had a 2 year old when the twins were born and just to add to the fun we had a 16 and 14 year old too. my wife took 14 years off normal work to raise our 5 kids while i worked some crazy hours and she went back to work when the twins were 13 because my insurance costs for medical went up to $2,000 a month in 2002. Canada seems to have the medical figured out, but i'm not sure.

i did manage to make it to almost all the kid's sporting events and functions so enjoy the ride now that you bought the "E" ticket (best rides at Disneyland). now that i have 41, 39, 27, 25 & 25 year olds it feels like almost yesterday when i was in your position.

take care and don't let that cool grinder tip and if it does get out of the way. i had a friend of a friend try to stop a car from rolling down a little parking lot and he got pinned against a wall to save the building and car. He still walks with a limp after several surgeries though.

I guess I should start another thread for this but I just wanted to post a band saw I paid more than I usually would but I knew it was rare.

At the shipyard I work out of we have a similar model with the solid cast arm it's not a 1942 like this one but we run aluminum through it all day long and I beleave it's been in that shop for 50+ years and all its asked for is bearings well aside from New trunnions when it fell once. Also when it fell the casting arm cracked but it never seemed to mess up the balance.

So when I saw this older one in mint condition with the rare faucet style knobs for 300 I raced to get it. It was on a home built stand which I will swap out for the standard sleek tapered stands they came with. When I examined it there was a seesed bearing and the trunnion clamps were broken and I noticed someone had fabricated new trunnions but even took the time to stamp the degree gauge back on. I will eventually find an original trunnion to replace them but for now all it needs is trunnion clamps so I got it for 280. The bearing came unseesed with corrosion X. The saw runs beautifully I may stick a 1.5 hp baldor 1740 rpm motor I managed to score for 20 bucks a few months back. The guy baught it new for his table saw but the rpms were too low:wtf: I will post some pictures when I get it cleaned up and on the sexier stand.

The serial number is 16-562 if you can't make it out in the picture.

CT: this is a great spot to post some of your cool tools so keep posting them here as you have the time. that delta is a quality bandsaw and that stand doesn't look too bad either.

once you start to restore your Delta or other tools you might want to start a restoration thread to get a few followers in case you run into an issue that you might need some help on.

is your wife back home resting while you are taking care of your sick 2 year old and cooking or buying food? like i said it won't change anytime soon so enjoy the ride and make the best of it. wishing you the best

have a great weekend

I have till next Tuesday off so yeah I'm getting used to wearing the apron. Learned how to use the new dishwasher today on my own, not as cool as my tools but it works well! I even taught the wife how to set the washer on double rinse for sensitive baby clothes lol. Everyone's well and we are looking forward to spending some quality family time this weekend. Trying to get the older one to feel included in the new family dynamic. Life is short fill it with love and you won't have missed a thing.

I couldn't imagine how busy you must have been... Wow just wow... The Canadian healthcare is a blessing for sure. I think it's one of the best, no need for private insurance at all really 50 bucks a month per person and your pretty much covered for most thing.. but we are burdened with having to drink STRONG beer...
