My wife found this at a garage sale and thought I should have it for my B-day. Let me know if anyone knows WTF it is. Here is what I've come up with:
Its made of cast iron. The bottom of the box is 7"x4". The box is 1&1/2" tall. The plate inside the box, with the three notches, is removable. Those notches look like what I've seen before on the tops of wood stoves for lifting the hot plates off. The splines on the top of the box and on the wheel show signs of having been nickle plated at one time.
The wheel is 3" wide and 2&1/2" in dia. The handle is made of wood and obviously been close to a fire as it is much shorter now then it was when new.
So I'm thinking that the plate is put into a fire til its red hot and then placed back in the box. This of course will heat the box, then you put something, cloth, candy, paper, metal??? onto the top of the box and roll over it with the roller, making a permanent wavy pattern.
WTF is this?

My fiance found one at a garage sale last year for $5 and uses it for scrap booking, pleating ribbons and other chick stuff.
