Also on portable air tanks there is a date stamped on them that after that date you are suppose to destroy them.

The end blew off the tank at a friends shop. He had just closed and wasn't home (2 miles away) when the cops called about the explosion.

There were several crankshafts next to the compressor that were broken in half and a 55 gallon drum was blown over the two cars in the bay, never touching either one.

I've got an automatic drain on mine, but I'm surprised that it failed catastrophically like that. I've seen a couple tanks that corroded to the point of pinhole leaks, but not a catastrophic failure like that.
