A Reminder

The other day in Home Depot, I was looking at Batteries, AA's, and 9 volts. Got to thinking, I could not remember how long it had been since I changed the smoke alarm batteries. Started to get some Duracells, then saw the RayOVacs, 4 for just a little more than a two pack of the Duracells. (4 packs of Duracells were pricey). Anyhow, This evening I went to change out the smoke alarm batteries, I had labeled the old ones with the date I installed them, the labels say 10/09/06. Hmmmm........ one year to the day, what an odd coincidence.

Anyhow, just wanted to remind the forgetful ones among us who have battery powered smoke dectors (and CO detectors if you have a gas furnance) to change the batteries out if you haven't done it lately.

It amazes me but each year mine seem to die in October. Its weird and I am sure a coincide but October is change your smoke detector batteries. Maybe one year I changed them all because of the hoopla aound it.

What brand was in it when you changed it this year?

hmmm....

they all need to be hardwired, here (upon sale/purchase of a home, anyway)... haven't seen many battery powered in a while

This house was built in '85 and they were not required. County does not require them now that I know of, certainly not for change of ownership. These were installed by the previous owner and seem to work OK. I had Duracell batteries last year, I think the Ray-O-Vacs are as good, never had a problem with them in other items.

Only problem I have with the detectors is that in the spring and fall, when I open up the house for long periods of time, the detectors will start chirping when the humidity rises. I can turn on the A/C, and after an hour the air in the house has dried enough that they cease chirping.

Smoke detectors also have a limited life, 5 to 10 years I think.

I started to order most of my batteries online from Battery Bob Great prices and fast shipping.
Have ordered several types from the watch type batteries to phone batteries.
Great prices on digital calipar batteries compared to local stores.
Also ordered industrial type 9 volt batteries for our smoke alarms.
