Drives: its going to be a full on shop. Just have to do it a piece at a time as the cash comes in. I have plans for a lift, all my tools and workbenches that are scattered right now, and maybe a little room to get some mew toys.

Bib: I'm about 5 hours southeast of Southeast Heights ;) , and the city here went to all curbside roll outs, so the alley is pretty much my private drive as it dead ends into my yard. But you are right, its and old 50's neighborhood, some of the trees on my property are over 50 feet tall

Same garage Saturday night. It feels great to have the dirtygirl back indoors !
Added benefit: now I have some of my tools in the new shop, I'll have to work around the big ones now, but at least they are near the work

I have run out of funding for the shop so I am on hold for now with the electrical, which has me on hold for the insulation, which of course has the wall covering on hold...in an ironic twist, the walls are what I have the material for.

Anyway, I have moved all my stuff in and am starting to lay it out and organize it all

If you have the insulation and wall material you could just go ahead and finish the walls up, and surface mount your electrical in conduit.

Been forever since I updated this so here goes...

Still no electrical service, running on an extension cord from the house.

Still no insulation or ac. Actually I have a couple of window units but I have already burned up my compressor with the voltage drop

I do have the lights installed, and almost all my **** inside.

Oh, yeah and I'm using the **** out of it!

Seems kinda bad that I am only posting on this once a year, but it is what it is. I seem to be horrible about keeping track of this stuff

I am hoping to be shamed into action, I have actually been working on stuff for at least an hour after work every day, there's been massive headway in the last 2 weeks, but it's only got me this far.

Anyone who's read this thread before knows I was starting a car project with my son...well he got a girlfriend and I got ****** old camaros littering my property. I just got them out of the shop and started working on it last week

So, I’m not even sure where to begin on updates to my shop. My last post in this thread was from 2017…

I guess I’ll just start with what I did today and kind of go backwards and forward from here.4EE315E9-BFFD-453A-AC80-2DB404AF1FF9.jpeg

today I finished installing that door, and put the trim around it, it had been held in with 4 screws and had the extension cord running through it for the last 5 years. I had to use clamps and pry bars to tweak the frame straight after all this time but it’s finally done.

The difference is unbelievable, with just a fan in there I have been able to work in it this summer more than the other summers combined

This was one of my goals at the start of this year:
0CAC0BE2-E641-4290-9948-DF8A44D35829.jpeg
To be able to fit 3 cars in the shop at once! I was so stoked about actually getting to work in my Mustang in the shop, this was the first time it’s been in the shop! Before this day I always drug my tools to the garage in front to work on her.

So just to explain what happened it was just life, my shop was always just the easiest thing to let slide when **** got sideways, and it got sideways a lot these last few years.
In 2017 my family had 3 deaths starting with my 24 yr old cousin in July and ending with my grandfather in January, while my grandfather was not a shock I must admit I was not ready for him to go yet. My cousins death was devastating to everyone, he was very close to my children and they looked up to him, much like I look up to my uncle(his dad) it was rough for everyone.

2018 brought with it new challenges for my family after my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She is in remission now after multiple surgeries and radiation treatments. I am thankful for my insurance and all the money I had saved up for the shop, we made it through all the medical expenses without having to go into debt.

2019 wasn’t bad, and we started saving up and working in the shop again

Here is my work bench and storage assembly, it’s a set of gondola shelving that I set up with pegboard on the back, then the cabinets from my first shop (from a bank remodel my wife got for me)
On the shelf side it makes a hallway with my file cabinet collection and gives me a massive amount of storage. The totes are set up for various projects (mostly vehicles). The wall cabinets are pump panels from work, I had originally kept about 14 of them but only these 4 made the purge.

Speaking of the purge!
The 2 Camaros were given away, the Sunbird was sold, and I decided to sell my F250. We rented a roll off dumpster and filled it twice! I had a local scrapper come by and haul off a 24’ trailer of metal, and this year we finally got the Explorer title so I could get it scrapped.
Here’s my back yard after

So in the middle of all the trying to get rid of stuff I found a deal in a Total Shop that I couldn’t pass up. For those of you that don’t know it’s a knock off of a ShopSmith, that was so exact the parts interchange…bet you can guess why they went out of business. I got it for 125 bucks and it came with the scroll saw, bandsaw, jointer, belt sander, and the table saw setup that includes a 10”disc sander and a shaper that terrifies me. Ironically it is missing the parts to use it as a lathe which was what I wanted it for.

I have a real problem keeping up with these things but the shop is in full service now. I built a mezzanine and set up my cabinets. I currently have all 3 of my vehicles in it but I’m working on new carts/stands for my tools before I get into anything on the cars

Mezzanine was a nice add. So has your son's interested stayed with girls, so the garage/cars are your solo projects now?

Yeah, he never really regained any interest in cars besides basic transportation.

My son in law helped me rebuild my other daughters engine and he seemed pretty interested in learning more but with their new baby he doesn’t have any time.

I’ve actually been busy in the shop for the last year, it was just a complete mess and I got caught up enough to work ON the shop for a bit.
