Small tip just because it cost me 4 hours and a headache today.

Went to bass pro, which is about a 1-1/2hour drive each way, and bought a nice Case Sod Buster Jr. knife as a Christmas gift. When I got it home this was on the blade.

I'm not bashing Bass-Pro, they made it right but since they were out of that model they gave me a good discount on the next model up. So I'm more than happy with that.

Just be sure to closely check over knives you buy.

I got out of that habit since I collect Case, Strider, and Dan Winkler knives. I have always just come to expect a certain standard with them. But, **** happens and it just took 4 hours to make it right. Not angry, just more cautious and less rushed now.

I should have inboxed it then and there, so that part is on me!

Merry Christmas All!

So you did or did not open it at the store to inspect?

Did NOT. I saw it in the display case and said, "I want that one!"

I will religiously from now on! Lol

I always hated the finger prints that stuff like that brings but I don't mind so much now...

ETA: the folks there did their best and with as busy as they were, spent more time making it right than I expected them too. Even the guy working the knife counter said it was the first time he had seen a Case with that on it.

Son gave me a Case 3 blade for my birthday. Looked nice in the box. Carried it a week in my pocket, and all blades have a black discoloration pitted look. :dunno:

I've never used a Case knife. I edc a Coast flipout and for the 20 bucks it's been a trooper

Carbon steel blade. Better steel than their stainless however you need to either keep it dry, oiled, or have a patina formed to prevent other rust from forming.

My dad made me give him a penny when he gave me a knife, because he said it was bad luck to give someone a knife. :)

I will admit I usually buy knives with stainless blades, so I can't blame you for not even thinking about it, because I don't. Of course I'm usually giggling like a little girl by the time I'm back at my car, and I have to try and shave hair off the back of my hand.

Good advise, really for anytime I guess. Remember to open the box and open the blade.

I have really come to appreciate the quality of case knives.
I use them ALOT. It's kinda funny to me how many men do not carry pocket knives these days. People know I always have one in my pocket.
I have a few with the carbon steel blades and put a forced patina on them.
Mustard works great, onion too. I have several new knives that look like they're really old, but they don't rust.
Not something you'd do if you're a collector, but it is for my pocket.
