I just found Garage Journal this afternoon and I have spent the last couple of hours bouncing around reading some of the postings. I must say this group seems to be comprised of informative, talented, and witty individuals that enjoy sharing their ideas and their knowledge about their passions. I had a situation come up yesterday that sent me to the internet in search of an answer. This is lengthy, and for that I apologize.
Back in the late 90’s I bought a set of Craftsman Industrial Series boxes (cabinet – mod. 706.654371 and chest – mod. 706.654351). Within a few months, I was transferred and did not have a place for the units, so I stored them at my brother in law’s shop. Fast forward 17 years, I have been transferred again and this time I have room for a little shop. This past weekend I travelled to pick up the boxes and bring them home. Now the problem, the two gas shocks that hold the lid up no longer do so. I should mention that inside both the cabinet and the chest were cards that say “Full Warranty for as long as you own this chest or cabinet”. I went to the Sears website and was offered the opportunity to “chat” with an agent. I spoke with Harold M. He started out telling me that Craftsman chests have a maximum warranty coverage of 6 years. I told him that may be true of some of their chests, but the 7000 series boxes are warranted as long as I, the original owner, own the box – and I still own it! Since I nearly gave myself a hernia unloading the boxes, there is no way I’m going to load the chest back up and take it to a Sears store. Hopefully, I can just take the two gas shocks in to get replacements. I looked into ordering a couple of new ones, but at over $50 each, I’m inclined to push the issue. I appreciate opinions.
