I have a RHFT ratchet I picked up at a yard sale. It works well but the finish on the anvil and selector switch had seen better days and I was sick of scrubbing rust off of them. I decided to try to blue them after watching this video from Abom79:


I used the same product shown in the video:

I'm pretty pleased with the results. The high spots on the selector switch refused to darken for whatever reason but everything else came out pretty well. The anvil in particular looks great.

Time will tell how long the finish holds up but for now I'm calling this a success. :)

I've done gun bluing on tool parts. Nice to know I'm not the only one! :lol_hitti

I'm not a slave to specific products. If I find something that works I'll use it - don't really care what the "original" use it. I've used gun greases and cleaners on ratchet guts, too.

I purposefully blued some things and left them in an area where they SHOULD rust.

They do not have any rust on them 2 years later.
