A touch of Gulf Livery

Finally finished up a little side project that I started last fall lol.... there’s something about Gulf Livery that is just better than all the others. I think you’d be hard pressed to find a car/garage guy that doesn’t like it.....so I thought a touch of Gulf added to the garage seemed fun. I had some leftover baby blue paint from my kids playhouse that seemed to match perfectly the light blue and I picked up a quart of a close orange and went to town. I made the sign from some scraps I had and a decal from eBay.

What do you guys think? I’ve seen a few Gulf inspired entire garages on here.... show us your “touch” of Gulf!

If that's a bathroom, you have to wash your hands while seated on the pot! The Gulf stuff looks good, very creative.

Yes John Wyer's team colors though they clash, just-seem to work, I've seen them on motorcycles too. It's a good look, simple, clean, identifiable. Your treatment looks good. I'm sure that you have to constantly explain what is the significance of the color scheme.

Your door looks great! I really like Gulf colors and collect Gulf stuff. I wasn't as creative as you, but the Gulf sign was the first thing I put up after finishing the interior wall.

Always a fan of Gulf since my dad owned a Gulf service station and repair garage back in the 70s and early 80s. My first job was working there after school pumping gas and cleaning up.

I sadly don't have much Gulf memorabilia though from it though, just a few small keepsake items.

That's an interesting design, one of my favorite liveries is the Penske-Sunoco deep blue w/yellow trim which Mark Donohue campaigned.

I read that the frames of the 917 were pressurized which was monitored, to determine when the design was becoming fatigued, in order to replace it before catastrophic failure.

That is done on a number of aerobatic airplanes....

I have seen it in a Zlin Z-526 Acrobat (I'm not a pilot). There is a gauge in the cockpit. When the pressure shows zero, the frame is cracked and the show is over. Time to put it on the ground.

I used orange and blue laminates for all the cabinetry and, of course, paint for the door. The other side of this door is striped like yours but for the workshop side I used the arrow like the Targa Florio and Nurburgring 908/3s.
