And after Christmas or when I finish this project, whichever comes last. I'll share my build sequence so you can help me figure out how to do things better.

Have you ever been so deep in a project you forget what’s going on around you, and the next thing you look up and you can’t see a horizontal surface anywhere? Working on a Christmas gift, and this just “happened” to the shop. I started cleaning up the bench. I hope I can have it mostly cleaned up by the weekend.
Kirk,
That's the way my "horizontal surfaces" :lol_hitti look right now.

I keep telling myself ... soon must straighten... soon must straighten. :lol2:

News year resolution is to find a clean spot on the work bench?

Good luck with that! Lol!

Your not alone in this regard!

I'm a full fledged member of not having a clean work spot!

I feel a little better knowing I'm not alone in suffering from "HSD" (horizontal surface disease) in the shop. My wife has it worse, but that's a different story.

I think we all have the HSD problem. My current remedy is to not add any more work benches with those flat surfaces that I just stack stuff on. If a job needs a bigger work surface than the tool cart side table then I have two B&D Workmates I can pull out and unfold. I'm even trying to store those folded up when not in use so I don't turn them into HSD enablers. Been there, Done that!

I really would like to get a welding table so I can build my wagons on it. And I could use a frame table to build the truck chassis on.

Both table types would be awesome. I do have a 4' x 4' welding table but unfortunately no room for a permanent frame table.

As you know I'm always happy to help a fellow GJer. I'd be very willing to store your welding table after I built a frame for it. Just trying to help.

If I send you my welding table then where would I store all the stuff that is now setting on top of it. You see it has HSD also. It's down in the barn which I have not yet sanitized for the disease. So it's good luck finding a clean piece of flat surface in there including the welding table.

Sounds like a good winter project to add to your list. Find or build a good welding table.

I don’t really have a problem, honestly.

Thanks "rt1". I think Pops must have scrounged 2 or 3 entire crates. The rest are going to become a ceiling to help keep the ducks warm in the winter.

I love the 3rd pic. This corner is so cozy looking.

I would say just about any project that takes more than an hour to complete ends up with stuff strung all over the bench. :D

Bret, it's the heavy use corner. I never thought 14' of bench would stay so cluttered, but you're right, anything I can't finish in an evening causes massive clutter.

I haven’t been a total slacker. I spent a full day and a half recovering from my horizontal surface disease. While I was at it, I did a repair to the barn fridge and finished putting the last door on the bench. The fridge was missing the shelves, thanks Dad for the plexi. And as you can see, the door had a little bit of warp. Two strips of angle on the inside and its close enough for this shop.

And a full garbage can, the real measure of a clean up.

I do know the dust haze of shame on a vehicle sitting for a long long time...

Guilty as charged Kev. But you'll notice the bottom 1/3 of the core support is missing and a lonely 4.6l sitting behind the lawn tractor. The core support rebuild got put on hold so I could work on a birthday/Christmas gift for my son. I hope to get back to the core support in about a week and a half.

Look at all that shiny flat surface. Well done.

I think my weekend is going to be spent doing the same, my garage is a mess at the moment.

Cheers GB

Thanks GB, I really like having the shop neat, organized, and fairly clean.

Thanks for dropping by Kent. I'm glad I can be some inspiration. It's taken a long time and a ton of pop bottles to get the shop to this state. That, and parents with eyes for deals. What town do you live in?
