Mr. Q, thanks for dropping in. Work is work, doesn't matter where it's done. My kerosene heater gets my barn up to t-shirt level in 45 minutes or less, no matter what the outside temp. Maybe time for you to get a second propane torpedo/bullet?

I think I might have confused you... I just don't have enough to do out there to make it worth the trouble or $$$ to heat it up. It doesn't take but 15 minutes to make it T-shirt comfortable out there. 150000 BTU's is plenty to get the job done.and it sounds like a jet taking off!. This year I will get the gas line out to the shop for the radiant heater and ready for next winter.

Sorry about the car...again. Maybe its time for this

I went to Brisbane Australia about a decade back. I saw quite a few cars set up like this. I thought "Who in the heck puts a brush guard on a PASSENGER car???". People who run into animals on the way home. That's who.

I bet that thing weighs more than my car. It is a Sonic/overgrown rollerskate.

Yeah for sure. Need some roller skates on the front for the extra weight. Ha!

Ever heard of deer whistles? Some of my motorcycle brethren swear by them for riding the nearby hills and mountains. Cause when you're out riding at deer:thirty...you do anything to help Bambi out of the way.

Xtremek:

The "Roo" bars on Australian vehicles are reasonably effective because kangaroos have a fairly low center of gravity and huge rear leg muscles. Deer, moose and cattle have spindly legs by comparison. It is way too common for the bodies of these animals to come through the windshield and kill a driver or passenger.

If you don't have a strong stomach, avoid the results from googling "deer through the windshield". The "kangaroo through the windshield" search is equally disturbing but a fair number of them end up in the engine compartment rather than the cockpit.

Maybe something a little more elaborate to protect you from the next Bambi:

:lol_hitti Guys, I'd have to put a second engine in my little scooter to move that much metal. Up here in the states we call Roo Bars, brush guards. It used to be that off road guys used them. But nowadays, you only see them on pimped out SUVs that never leave the city/suburbia. The only reason I can think they need them for is to run over the poor who are to slow to get out of their way.

As for the deer strike pics, the daughter of a high school friend and her husband hit a deer with their new Chevy pickup. The deer was cut in half, half in the box, half in the road. They both flipped out when all they saw was blood. Happily, only the deer was hurt. Here's one page about it. Caution, it's very graphic, http://www.greatlakes4x4.com/showthread.php?t=223409

Howdy, a little more to show. I got my compressor hooked up to the main air trunk line. I don’t know if I did it right, but it should be close enough for what it is and who it’s for. I need to build some brackets to secure the pipe, but I’m saving that for when I finish all the pipe routing. For the flex line, I went with a ½” hydraulic line from TSC (thanks NuttsGT). It cost about the same as the 2’ long ¼” and 3/8” air lines from TSC. The plan is to plug the ends of the main trunk line, pressurize the system, and check for leaks, tonight. Who knows, I might have permanent airlines soon.

Been wondering why I haven't been receiving email notifications of your posts, apparently I entered "no email notifications " when I subscribed, fixed now and look forward to following how what I do, is done up nawth there. Like I think we discussed earlier I think we have a lot in common...
Now back to your concern about the tin you have being too rusty and not reflecting light, just how rusty is it? I have some beautifully rusted 5V I plan using on my ceiling and it is about 50% rust. A lot of tin on old houses and barns was at one time painted with a cold galv paint which actually leaves it with a nice patina.

I agree, I think we have a lot in common.

As for the majority of the tin I have, all but 2 or 3 sheets are 100% rust covered, so I'm not going to use them as ceiling. Especially since there's another shed close by that has a roof that is lightly rusted. As for the rusty stuff, the widow next door stores all her yard equipment under her deck (walk out from the 2nd floor). I hope to take some left over lumber, a few sheets and make her an roof/awning that will fit under her deck to keep the weather off her stuff. Maybe even a wall or two.

xt, do you get air from your compressor? If so I'd say it was hooked up right. I'm sure I'll take some heat for this, but is there a "right way" to hook up a compressor? I've used 1/2" cooper for my hard lines, with 3 drops with 50' flexzilla on each one. That cover the entire shop and lets us use more than one air tool at a time. This is what works for me, but I think everyone has different habits when it comes to using air.

SWMBO won't let me tweak her rides:sad::sad::sad:. The trans shop called and said it's done and we'll pick it up tomorrow night. I'd have pulled it, but I'm to old, tired and busy to horse a trans AND t-case out laying on the ground, so I let someone else do this one. It's kind of nice, to let someone else do the work, but this won't happen often.

What does Bambi have against black Sonics? This is why I’m working from the kitchen today. Got to love insurance, but I’m betting AAA hates me right now. FWIW, this is the 2nd Sonic I've owned that Bambi has mangled.

xtremek,
Bad deal with the deer.
We seem to be overpopulated with deer in my area.
The deer even come into town.
A few years ago early in the morning I looked out my kitchen window, & saw a doe with her 2 babies in my neighbor's back yard.

I leave for work when it's still totally dark.
I see deer 3 or 4 days a week on the way to work.
I bought a LED lightbar and mounted it to the pushbar on my truck.
It turns the night into day.
It has saved me a couple of times already from mangling a deer.

I think we need to get behind a national movement to require all deer to have insurance. As a fellow victim of an uninsured deer I think we need to fix this dreadful situation in our national nanny state coverage. Close the deer loophole now!

I live in the number one county in Colorado for dear hits. There is a section of highway that starts a couple of miles south that has dual speed limit signs. One for the summer at 60 mph. The other for 55 from September to May from 5pm to 7am. There is speculation that DOT supplied the deer and elk with calendars and watches to avoid car hits. This experiment has been going on for three years and DOT claims that the results are inconclusive.

That got me to thinking about maybe putting in some super bright spotlights down where the factory fog lights go. Thanks for the idea/suggestion.

Here in Michigan the deer would be required to carry no fault insurance and it would only cover his damages and injuries. Unless I was at fault, then he could recover $750 in damages (I think it's still $750).

I think there's an ad for Mothers polish in car mags that shows the next generation of federally mandated deer safety equipment. So that leads me to believe that the experiment isn't working and they're upping their efforts. I think it'll work.

I’ve been working on airlines for the past month. I will say I’m really not liking black pipe. I know part of it’s my fault because I put the main trunk line put in the rafters so I don’t have to look at them. But I’m wondering if pipe dope is the cause of my issue. I had one main joint that had dope on it that leaked in one tiny spot. When I ran my finger around the joint, I could actually feel the break in the dope. I also learned a valuable lesson the hard way. Don’t go with just unions when running pipe. The leaking joint was on the leg that ran all the way across the end of the barn. I ended up cutting the union with a sawzall and putting in a coupler. I also have issues on two of the reducers on my horizontal taps. They had plenty dope on them and I tightened them up as much as I could with the wrenches I had, but they still leak. The plan is to redo them one more time tomorrow night.

Anyway, the lines are useable and I finished up the hose hooks so I could finally clean my bench and get on with other stuff.

I also got a cool treat on Sunday. It was bird day in my neighborhood. On the drive home, I looked out into a field and I saw a bird picking on a deer. It picked its head up and it was pure white. That’s the first time I’ve ever seen a real bald eagle! I got a cellphone pic. Then I got home and was doing a quick check of GJ. I got up to grab a couple of Samoas (the wife is a Girl Scout leader). As I got back to my seat, I looked out the sliding glass doors and saw about 14 adult turkeys eating at the edge of our pond. It was a very cool addition to my weekend.

I used galvanized pipe (local HD didn't carry black pipe) and had two leaks. Both were out-of-round fittings. It never occurred to me to check but now I do. Luckily they were fairly short ******* at Tees. Probably the first time a leak wasn't my fault.

Kirk, happy to hear of your progress with the air. Sorry to hear you're not done with it yet. Perseverance is the key to all success stories.

Very cool to see a bald eagle. I'm lucky to have a pair of them live close by. I only get a glance at them a few times a year, but am always impressed when I do. As far as wild turkeys go, this area is over populated with them. It's very common to see a rafter of them in my back yard.

Are you tapping your pipe yourself? The problem you are having is probably rough or badly ripped threads. Or possibly not tapped far enough. Probably seal better if you ran a die down the the threads by hand to clean them up. And use pipe tape. It doesn't blow out as easy.
I think I have one around here somewhere if you need to borrow one.

Thanks for dropping by Bob, Sean, DLC and Jo. The leak is at the tee and horizontal reducer on both outlets. I had Gillroy’s (local hardware for those not from the area) do my thread cutting. But Jo, I’m following your advice, I’m going to try Teflon tape instead of pipe dope. I didn’t get to it last night, too busy replanting my driveway markers that everyone has driven over and oil changes on the Orphan and Exploder. Both the twins were sick last night, stomach flu. TI did get a nice gift last night. The neighbor works in a construction equipment body shop and clear coated these for me. They’re something I machined a few years ago. The Random Magoo is for my daughter. That apple didn’t fall far from the tree.

I chased leaks for a month after installing my black pipe. I just gave up and turn the compressor off every night after ues. Maybe someday I'll have time to go back and fix... Yea, right...

There are some junky fittings out there for sure, mostly at big boxes. I try to use Ward Mfg black pipe when running it, they cost extra (buy from Mcmaster) but they don't leak when you tighten them up.

I also have not seen an eagle, live, but hope to one day :)

Nice license plate frames! Keep those spindles turning.

Thanks for stopping by Matt. I used teflon and now the air hose couplers are leaking. Thx for the compliment on the plates. Unfortunately the mill wasn't mine and I don't have access to one now. Maybe someday.

Ok guys, I'm still alive. I hope you guys are doing well. Work is hectic and it's the end of the girls basketball, quizzing and band festivals, so I've been diverted elsewhere. I've been chipping at little things and I'll do a proper post after this weekend. My daughter last quiz meet and my wife's Science Olympiad is this coming weekend, so not much will happen. I have gotten quotes for putting in the foundation for the Duck Haus/garden shed and the foundation guys are chomping at the bit to do a small job while the frost laws are in affect. Waiting for a call back from the excavators as to when they can start. Going to be a wild spring, I think.

Hey Jim, yes we had a warm winter and the first part of spring seems to be starting out really warm.

During the winter, the ground actually freezes. Usually the "frost line" around here is about 4' deep. Come spring, the ground thaws from the top down and the ground can get REALLY soft. That leaves the roads with no support beneath them, so the load limits are reduced big time. On a dirt road, you can actually see the soft spots. Once all the ground is thawed ("the frost is out of the ground") and it's had a chance to dry a little, the ground gets firm again, the return the weight limits to normal.

Just curious, how far are you from Ft. Hood?

I didn’t drop off the face of the earth and I’m not bed ridden, I have proof. Last Saturday, my daughter and I brought this gem home. It’s a ’73 that belonged to my Uncle PL that recently passed away. His family lives out in Wyoming and nobody else wanted it. No keys and no title. Wheels locked at an angle. 5 hours to load and ended up putting it on the trailer backwards.
Trying to finish the Muguguy Pine area. The berm was blocking the view of the pine, difficult to mow, and the near corner, was rutted where someone decided to go wheeling. Hooked up the plow to the Old Mule and started tearing it up. I didn’t get a picture of what it looked like before I started unfortunately. I plan to hit the area with the rototiller today and HOPEFULLY seed it tomorrow. I’ve also included a pic of my dreaded foe, my arch enemy, THE IVY. I left the plow down by the Muguguy Pine back in the spring because I knew I was coming back to finish the job. In the meantime THE IVY had grown up to the bottom 3pt links on the plow. I had my rubber boots and gloves on when I hooked up to the plow, but I still got THE IVY on me somehow.
And just so you don’t think I’m neglecting the barn, I started working on cleaning the siding I got from the fallen horse barn. For all those who are upset that I’ve destroyed the patina, I had no choice. When I took it down some of it had mold on it and the fact that it had to sit outside and got wet caused even more mold, so time to clean it. Don’t tell my mom, she’ll want to strangle me. After two days, I’ve got about 2/3 done and I hope to finish today. I plan on using this wood in the barn as wainscoting. This brings me to a couple of questions. While cleaning I saw a bunch of tiny holes, about a 1/16th of an inch in diameter. Carpenter ants? And I found a ********* ant, about ½” long, bulldozing the wood around. How do I get rid of them cheaply? And the next question, when I’m done, what kind of finish should I put on the wood. I’m not terribly concerned about making it fire retardant, more about what will be cheap and durable.

Still have the truck?

I gave it to the neighbor in trade for a G30 front suspension and rear dually axle. It's still sitting in his yard. What do you need? I'm guessing he'd be willing to sell all or part of it for the right price.
