Jim, no, but my son is normally stationed there. Right now his group is out of the country, though they're returning soon.

I gave it to the neighbor in trade for a G30 front suspension and rear dually axle. It's still sitting in his yard. What do you need? I'm guessing he'd be willing to sell all or part of it for the right price.
I work in St Johns. Where is truck located?

I survived SO and my final quiz meet!!! Another year in the bag. I'm the event supervisor for Robotic Arm. There were three note worthy entries. Most teams buy a kit and make a few modifications to meet the rules. One team burn up their bot the day before the comp and scrambled to put something. But they grabbed two kits and pulled it out of their fanny's side ways and made it to the show. Another design used paint sticks for arms and toothpicks for claws. The last design used gear motors salvaged from automatic paper towel dispensers. This is our future. I think we still need to worry about it, but maybe not so much.

Unfortunately Dan, Saturday was just about surviving. I'll try and remember to get some next year. But I do have some pics of the Detroit Autorama to share.

Life is kicked into high gear. My dad was at the scrap yard turning in some steel and copper when a guy rolls in with this beauty. They tell him they won’t give him anything for it unless he breaks it down. So my dad offers him $8 for a 5kW generator. He has able to get it started on ether and told me to come and get it. I already have a 10kW, but I figure someone I know needs one and I still haven’t fixed the widow lady’s. Anyway, on Sunday, I got it running (I think the float was stuck) and found out it doesn’t charge. Last night I made this little charging cord and I picked up some 60 watt light bulbs this morning, so tonight I’ll find out if it just needs the remagnetizing.

Two posts in one day, you folks must have been really mean to deserve such poor treatment. When I got home from work yesterday, I saw this. Cook’s Excavating was busy digging the hole for the wife’s Duck Haus foundation. And he’d already pulled out the three stumps in the garden that I couldn’t get at. I really like this guy. He returns my phone calls fairly quickly and did the job exactly how the wife wanted it. We’ll see if he finishes the same way he started. Anyway, the cement guys called and said they would be out and should be able to finish the pours today.

Nice score on the generator. Amazing what some people throw away. I'd give you a "you ****" but your dad is the one that deserves that.

And if that is torture, then I can stand it. Did I tell you I love car shows.:lol_hitti

Hey Kirk
Your dad got a very nice score. Hopefully there isnt to much wrong with it and you get it operating.
So is the shed going to be an actual Duck House or more of a garden shed ? The wife is raising 5 ducks in with her chickens. Dont know if you've ever ate duck eggs but they are great.
Thanks for the pics from the Auto show. I love the old cars and trucks.

Yeah, the Old Man is a hustler and comes across deals like this all the time. If I get the generator running, I'll give it to my little brother. He made a really bad life decision, paid the price, and is having a hard time climbing out of the hole. So I try to do everything I can do to help him.

Mark, one third of the Duck Haus will be for ducks, the middle third for the lawn equipment and the last third will be for for the wife to use for potting.

We already have a garden shed, though it has a rotted roof, floor and missing doors. All of that is easily repairable, but since she wants ducks, I'm pretty sure a wood floor won't hold up. And since we have a ton of t-111, OSB, and 2"x6"s, we made the decision to go new. Once the new shed is up, I'll disassemble the old one and reclaim as much as I can.

Since everyone seems to be enjoying the show pics, I'll throw a few few last years Autorama. You might notice a small trend in that I like unusual engines. I agree about the blown flathead, and that's why I snapped the Ranger and the Bronco pics. Anyway, onto the pics.

Settle in, I have a ton more pics from last year. I'll post them over the next few days. On another note, I went to start the generator last night and it wouldn't start except on ether. I'm going to replace the shut off valve this weekend.

Very nice.

How big is that show? Like thousands of people go or bigger than that?

Looks like you got some good pics without a massive crowd of people around.

Thanks for sharing.

GB, the Detroit AutoRama is pretty big. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Roughly a thousand cars, bikes, motorcycles, trucks and more. I think the main floor of Cobo Hall is about 700,000 sq ft (65,000 sq. meters) in size and then they have about half that size in the basement. For the pics, it takes patience if you want a good one, but almost everyone is very polite and will stop long enough for you to snap a quick one. I'd guess about 150k-175k people come through Cobo during those 3 days. Some more pics from last year for everyone.

Thanks Chilly, glad you stopped by. It's a bit nippy here this morning, below freezing. So the Duck Haus walls were poured on Wednesday. The Pung's came by this morning and pulled the forms off. If things go well, the wife should have a floor by Tuesday. The rest of the weekend will be filled with action. Today I hope to get 25 yards of crushed concrete put on the driveway, do some work on the "Sparkle Candy" lawn tractor, and get the generator running. Busy day.

GB, the Autorama is a pretty big one. It usually takes me 8-10 hours to walk it all. There's a lot of passion in all those cars, trucks.......

Good luck with all your projects today Kirk. It doesn't sound like you'll be having time for lunch. I hope you had a good breakfast. I'll be checking back on Monday to see how you made out.

Good morning folks. It was frustrating for being a long weekend. I had high hopes for getting a lot of things off my plate. So much for that happening. Some of it my fault, some of it out of my control. The Redi-Mix place was closed on Friday . So I worked on fence posts around the wife’s garden. I finished 4 more posts, 5 more to go. Early Saturday morning I dropped off carb bodies at the small engine shop to get them ultrasonically cleaned. Then we headed to Flint to pass out Easter baskets. I was able to get back to St Johns in time to pick up the carbs. Saturday afternoon I put the carbs together and tried to get the generator running, but it still won’t run.

Sunday was spent working with my daughter on her “new” ‘03 S-15 pickup. We put on the custom plate bracket and started in on installing her new radio. The Crutchfield/Metra install kit was the wrong one, so we’re in the process of making our own. Monday was the most productive, with a visit to U of D Mercy with my daughter, and then home to get crushed concrete. I hauled 8 yards home in about 4 1/2 hours. I’m really feeling it today. Only 120 more yards to go (according to best guestimates).

No more pics for a little bit, the wife and I are headed to Atlanta. But I'll make sure to take some while we're down there. And once I get back, I'll continue to post more rods n' rides.

Good morning people. Sitting here in the hotel room waiting for the day to start.

Great photos, there is something to see!

Thanks Vieux. I wish I had a cool car like one of those.

Speaking of cars, on suggestions from the GJ, the wife and I went to "Caffeine and Octane" yesterday morning. It's a decent sized car show (I'd call it mid-sized). Mostly high dollar European rides and tuners, not many hot rods or muscle cars. And like any decent show, the rest of the parking lot was filled with quite a few rides that could've/should've been in the show. I'll post some pics when I get back to the cold north. It's a monthly thing, so that's impressive. I highly recommend it if you're into cars.

We also hit the Botanical Gardens. I recommend going there as well. I'd love to sit in the main room of the orchid house and read a good book, it smells incredible.

Today, while the wife is busy with her conference, I'm renting a car and headed north east to the land of Buick, to visit Lamar and his BS&S.

I took a couple some frogs and a scuplture, and the wife has a couple. I'll post those as well, when I get back.
