I enjoyed the thread.

It helps me remember that I don't need to run to the store every time something breaks. A little purposeful problem solving and I can probably find something I have laying around that can be used to fix it.

If you need to change fuel pump four bolts hold the bed on the tank is right there

I didn't even think that direction. I really appreciate that!!!!

Thanks for the compliment Brian. It's one of the few benefits of not having a lot on money, you have to learn to be creative. Got any pics of what I'm guessing are Vdubs? I used to be a buggy/bug guy, back when dinosaurs roamed the planet and Ferry Porsche was a kid.

My apologies to those of you out there who actually read my thread for the lack of updates. Life is out of control right now. I have pics and when I get a sec, I'll bring this up to date. Which leads me to the question, why are you reading this thread when you should be reading NuttsGT, 1/2 cup, or one of the other really good threads. I'm just a crazy, no talent hack who has a little fun, what can you learn here?

Xtremek, as long as I know you're still fighting the good fight, I'll be tagging along. If you ever wonder why I'm interested, here's your front yard and tractor...

I don't even have a lawn mower so I have to enjoy threads like yours with all your fun toys.

If you can't find the time to post big projects, just do a quick "I'm alive and well." so we don't worry.

Xtremek, we like to see what has been happening, even the mundane.

...and I'm still waiting for some flat bar to appear so I can make your Plano boxes from a way back.

Cheers GB.

Man it's all good. I'm kinda in the same boat. Not as many cars to keep running, but I do have 3 tractors, a couple chainsaws, weedeaters, air compressor, four wheeler, jeep...you get the picture. Its a struggle to keep everything going on your own, without real $$$.

Maybe we feel the need to follow along with one of the good guys here on the GJ. Hell, I work on vehicles everyday and hardly ever discuss anything that is garage related. Sometimes it's more fun to talk about life. Carry on and let us decide if your thread is worth reading. I think you'll find that we keep coming back to see what you're up to.

I keep up because it's just great to know that there are still men out there that are willing to take a woman with family and take care of her and the family. You stick you nose to the grind stone and you keep pushing on. When life knocks you down and starts kicking your *** you just seem to work that much harder and you always seem to rise back to the top.

You have said before you dont drink or maybe not much but i still have to tip a cold one to you. Nice Job

Oh and you need to take some time and some money and spend it on that bike. Tis the season and you need to feel the breeze. You have earned it. ;)

because by reading your misadventures it makes mine seem to be on the same level of things that you due.

and Im like darn if Xtremek can pull off something like that!

I'll step up to the plate and take a swing at this as well!

your like the rest of us common folk.
Trying to due to much,

just hoping that the sun still comes up tomorrow!

any way that's my thoughts on it.

Hello xtremek, It seems I am not the only one who has been lost in the fray of living life's daily struggles. It's good to stop in and check on what keeps others going...

I did find your post on my thread about the Rune. I hope my reply answers your curiosity. I have been riding with the Patriot Guard for several years and spring brings many opportunities to give our respect to the families who request us. Sometimes 2 funerals in a day around here...

I try to keep up weekly when I get the email updates...

Thanks guys for all you've said, it makes me feel pretty good, especially coming from you guys. I'm humbled.

Anyway, I finally I have a couple of minutes during a meeting to jot down a few updates. I share a few of the latest and maybe work my way back. When the wife had the pond dug, they just dumped the diggings next to the pond. When I expanded the garden, most of the topsoil got displaced, so I borrowed the neighbor’s tractor that has a front bucket, and went down to the pond and brought up a trailer load of it. My dad found this contraption that you hook to the lift arms of the 3 point hitch, but when I hit a small bump, you see the damage. So I borrowed his drawbar and made this do-hickey up to keep it from rotating. During a tight turn, the tire snagged the do-hickey and I received a passing grade on my welds  A little work with the blue flame wrench and another j-bolt and we’re back in business.

The wife got baby ducks in about a month ago. For now, they’re in a couple of Rubbermaid tubs and stay in the twin’s room during the night and Robin lets them out in the yard during the day. Two walls are up on the duck house. I thought I’d share this little tip that my dad showed us. Glue the vapor barrier down. I hope we can finish the two walls tomorrow, but I won’t hold my breath.

Just got caught up, it's been a while since I have checked in. I'm interested in some more updates on the duck house, I keep thinking I would like to have some chicks for eggs, but I never pulled the trigger yet. I'm even thinking a couple of bee hives for honey...but that would take away from barn time  I will shut up now! anyway keep posting...

As far as Sam (the daughter’s truck) goes, we’re back at a standstill while she does all of her graduating, end of high school, starting freshman college stuff. This is my repair to the “new” inner fender. I’m hoping it’ll last as long as the rest of the truck. And the other picture shows some of the reason it’s not done yet. There was significant damage to the front wiring harness and unfortunately, the only electrical tape I have is bright orange high voltage stuff. I hope it doesn’t show up when everything is put together.

Continuing talking about my daughter, she graduated, 4th in her class, he says with a proud chest and swollen head, and she asked me to make her a shadow box for her medals. Since I don’t work well with wood, it’s time break out the grinder and welder and this is where I’m at that. I finished the box on Saturday. I wanted to make some curlies to put in the corners and center of 3 sides so we could put some plexiglass over the front of it to keep the dust out. Unfortunately, they didn’t turn out very well. The ones for the top turned out pretty well. Here’s a picture of the jig I made for making the accent pieces.
While I’m bragging on my daughter, I’ve taken a picture of one of the world’s coolest cube. The print of the hotrod was a birthday gift from her. On top of that, I have pictures of almost all of my family (the wife isn’t there, but she is my computer wallpaper).

I haven't forgot you, I'm just having a hard time sending you something that's representative. I know I can never top CC's fishnets, but I'd like to get in the ball park.

.......We've missed you.

Thanks Jon. Have you been running the wheels off your cool Vega?

.........I'm interested in some more updates on the duck house, I keep thinking I would like to have some chicks for eggs, but I never pulled the trigger yet............

The ducks are Robin's thing, I'm just her grunt. But as we go along, I'll share anything I think might help. One thing I did was ask the concrete guys to add this 1' cement stub wall. My thinking is that if Robin falls behind in cleaning the coop, it'll save the bottom of the wall.

........It tips that you come across here like you dads idea of gluing the vapour barrier down that help so much, thanks for sharing........

And that's why I joined the GJ and part of why I follow your thread.

Back to the grind.

The ducks were staying in Rubbermaid containers in the twin’s room. They outgrowing the tubs and leaving a mess in their room. So last week SWMBO sent me a text asking if I could build some kind of box for them. I got home and made the most overbuilt dog house. The floor is 2x6 that are 12” OC and ½”OSB. The walls are also 2x6 and they’re 16” OC. The roof has a 2-12 pitch and is tin and there is venting near the roof.

Gents, thanks for dropping in again. GB, you counted correctly. We started out with 18, but had a mishap and one died, so Robin has 6 Buff Orpingtons, 6 Khaki Campbells, and 5 Cayugas. I'm off this week, so I'm hustling as hard as I can. All the siding is up on "Der Duck Haus/Potting shed". Almost all of the decking is down. My parents dropped by and Dad helped me put some tin on the ceiling of the barn. So the next few days will be shingling the shed and the barn, finishing the daughter's truck, and some more crucshed concrete on the driveway. Pics and lessons learned to follow.

Hey Dan, I've been too busy hustling it to stop and take any pics. I should be able to put something up Monday or Tuesday. Only taking enough time to do my morning devotions, scan through a few of my favs on GJ, and then I hit it.

This is the first of the updates. We got my daughter’s truck running this past weekend. The fuel pump issue turned out to be a mouse issue. Thanks to JJC for the suggestion to remove the box. It was the right call, although it was 8 bolts, not 4. The mouse got the connector on the evap canister as well. After those were repaired, we tracked down a fan shroud, installed the front bumper, and pushed the rear corner of the box out enough to be able to put the tailgate on. I ran out of **** connectors (I only use the ones with the heat shrink & glue) and bulbs to finish repairing the front turn/marker lights. Also, since the shop is pretty much trashed for “Der Duck Haus” build, we lost the hinge bolts for the hood. We drove into town to get dinner and the parts……… without a grille, one headlight, or a hood. We hit the Big M, and then Autozone. We grabbed the bulbs and **** connectors and were able to put the grille and remaining headlight on. That left the hood. At 6:30pm in St. Johns there aren’t a lot of options available. You have the aforementioned Azone, O’Reillys, Family, Farm & Home, and a TSC. I confirmed that Azone didn’t have the right kind of shoulder bolts and figured I’d find the same at O’Reilly’s, so we headed to TSC. I grabbed a hacksaw, pliers, ½” OD nylon spacers, M8 bolts and lock nuts, and 2 quarter inch washers (larger OD than the M8 washers). Fifteen minutes cutting a spacer down and bolting it all together, I had channeled my inner McGuyver, and she was on her way home with a drivable truck. There’s still a bunch of things that need to be taken care of in order for Sam (her truck’s nickname) to be ready for normal use, but I’m hoping we can get it all taken care of before she starts college in the fall.

A little getting up early and staying up late eh? Its good when you've got a little help...I've started putting my Dad to work every time he shows up now.

I hate mouse issues. They had my car down for a whole week once when they chewed through a switch wire. Recently, I found a mouse nest in the wife's car A/C cabin filter...no wonder it wasn't pushing out much air!

Hey Fergus, a lot of getting up early, but in the heat we were having, not much going to bed late. Besides, my old body is having a hard time dealing with the abuse of manual labor. Having Dad help was invaluable. No one else felt comfortable on the ladder. And he has a different take on things, so between the two of us, we usually come up with a good solution.
