I'd make free time if you were to drop by in the 88, Dan. I get 3 days off this week because GM is using me to pay for the ignition switches (contract workers get 3 furlough days, ie. no pay) so I hope to get a lot done on the barn and duck house. We'll see.

Before it comes and goes, Merry Christmas X. I hope all is well.

Looking forward to seeing some of your winter projects. Get the use of the wheel done first so I can borrow it for a while.

Yeah man, Merry Christmas. Hope all is well.

Gents, thanks for dropping by.....and thank you for the holiday wishes. In case everything gets away from me, I pray your holidays are full of peace and joy.

I've got a couple of small projects done and I hope to post pics soon. But the girls school activities have kept me busy. The Christmas parade, two orchestra concerts and a fashion show made sure I didn't get any barn time.

How is the old mule doing on snow removal this year?
And does it start good in the extreme cold?

Or due you have other means for snow removal?

Thank you sir for the holiday wishes. I hope that your holidays are fruitful and fun.

Funny you should ask. I got the right tire loaded a week ago this past Saturday, just as the first snow started. She starts every time, but I'll admit that when I changed her over to 12v, I left the 6v starter in. So the motor spins really fast, even in the coldest weather. And no back up. And as usual, I work her hard. Each of the past two weekends she's spent at least 8 hours plowing.:3gears:

Its slow here at work, so I can throw up a quick post. I’ve been busy with supporting the kid’s activities. There was a Christmas parade, orchestra concerts, and a fashion show. Anyway, I’m still trying to reorganize the barn since the Duck Haus build. I put an extension on the tire rack to make space for the mower/wagon wheels. I emptied an old changing table so I could get the MIG and sand blaster out of the middle of the floor. And I made some shelves for the barn flicks. I’m furloughed after Tuesday, so I’m hoping to get the barn back to usable and get some work pumped out.

Hey looks like that shop is getting downright usable. Sorry you're getting furloughed...but its either time or money right? "Never the twain shall meet"? or something like that. Yeah those 6v starters spin REAL GOOD on 12v! Glad you're doing okay.

For the last 2 days i have read this thread from begining to end. Yep its a boring week here at work.

Mr xtremek--my hats off to you. It takes a real man to step into what you took on. I dont know many men that would of took up with a woman with 4 kids. Nice Job !

You put you shoulder to the grind stone to make things better for your new family and you have kept it there. It will be 2 yrs tomorrow when you started this thread. Through all the ups and downs you never gave up. Your outlook stayed positive and you always pushed forward. The improvements you have made on the homestead and the quality of life for you family is fantastic.

Again my hats off to you. Great Job and i look forward to keeping up with this thread. I know you say not a beer drinker so pretend the mugs are tea ;) :D

x, ran across this post while scrolling through your thread from the beginning again. Arkansas COB said it all, and I'm sure that will continue as I get through the second half of this journey. Thanks for letting me join the "trip"!

Stayed up a little and finished scrolling through: I wish I had your ambition, and it was worth every minute to finish reading.

Thanks for the compliment Ric. And don't sell yourself short, I don't have the hurdles you do, so it's easier for me to do those other things. Like 1/2 Cup kinda mentioned, knowing you inspires me by your determination. I think we share the same mentality, best put by the late Walt Disney, "We keep moving forward". I'm glad you enjoyed the trip so far.

To all my friends, and the people nice enough to stop by, I pray you have an incredible Christmas. I've tried to get by to everyone's thread to say it personally, but I keep falling behind. And I'm still trying to catch up, or dig into several threads, but there's just so much cool stuff going on here at the GJ. Enjoy folks, I'm off to the barn to get a little done before everyone wakes up.

Not far from you, I am in Saginaw.

Hey Nerd, my wife was in Saginaw twice a week this past fall at SVSU. If you're ever headed this way drop by.

Thx for the wishes Lamar. I hope this year is better for the both of us.

So yesterday was a busy day. Got up and shipped my daughter back to the east side of the state. Then I finally got a chance to fix the Exploder blower and change its oil. The squirrel cage was packed with mouse nest material. Then on to the Sonic and messing with a dragging heat shield. Then the furnace guy shows up to finish fixing the barn furnace. A few problems with the old beast, misaligned pilot and plugged burners (both of which I took care of last week), but it wouldn't light. Then the kid from Chasco shows up and sees I have 24" of water pressure at the barn regulator and only 1.3" at the control valve. After a couple of hours fighting the issue, we come up with the idea to try and blow out the lines. I use pipe fittings to adapt my air nozzle to the pipe sticking out the side of the barn and put 170+psi to the line. Nothing coming out , and then from outside the barn I hear a load "POP". Ends up a peanut sized chunk of pipe dope was partially plugging the line. Finished the day with starting the build of a loafing shed for my best half's ducks.

BTW I forgot to mention, it is really nice to have heat in the barn that doesn't stink and isn't so noisy:bounce:. As my old man likes to say, "Praise the Lord and pass the blessings". I turn the furnace off when I'm done in the barn, so I'll still use the torpedo to bring the barn back up to temp when I go in.

Well, I’ve been chugging along. Started prepping the bench in order to add my brake. Then I finished a job for my wife. Actually, for her ducks. It’s a loafing shed that we’ll put the feeder and electric waterers in.

I forgot to mention this earlier. Just to let you know that life here at the Princess Palace isn’t always boring, I thought I’d share this. The evening before Thanksgiving the eldest daughter texts Robin and asks her what’s wrong with our electric pole. Robin runs through the living room yelling she has to check “it” out. ‘What’s it?’ I ask. I follow her out and the top of the pole is on fire. Consumers Power is called. The fire department is called. The power for the whole neighborhood is shutdown. A couple of hours later, power is restored. The best part is that one of the twins said she’d noticed the top of the pole was sparking the night before. And just so you can’t say “Pics or it didn’t happen”, here is the only shot that turned out ok. Two volunteer fire fighters vehicles and one of the guys standing out in the drizzle.

Just got caught up Kirk. Glad you made it into 2017 with heat in your barn that doesn't stink. Those torpedos are great heaters but the fumes are killer (in more ways than one)

Happy New Year.

Thanks Dan for dropping by. Happy New Year to you as well. Do you have a Michigan plate for your wall? If not, PM me your addy and I'll try to get it in the mail soon. The really nice part about the furnace is consistent temps in the barn once it's up to temp.

I made a major step forward on a long wanted project/tool yesterday. This is going to be my sheetmetal brake. I was picking up stock to finish the duck loafing shed, and Alro was clearing out their 1’ stock, so I snagged a piece of 7/8” tubing, some 5/8” rod, and a 4’ chunk of 2 ½” angle. This has always been my plan, hence the 4” angle insert into the edge of the bench. If I go out today, I’ll pick up some black pipe elbows to weld inside the angle for handles. I haven’t figured out the work clamp out yet. I want to be able to put different stock in there for bending different shapes. I’d like to be able to clamp tubing so that I can bend radii as well. Any ideas?

Another project I’ve been piddling with is trying to get the barn more organized and looking better on the inside. I grabbed a few of the larger pieces of left over t-111 and made some doors for the bench. And these are for the latches. One step closer.

Hey Kirk
Love the loafing shed for the ducks feeders and water. Great job. The use of the recycled tin just sets it off.

I still follow your thread and all the stuff you do. As always you seem to work things out and come out on top. Sorry i dont comment more but i've become a LOB along with being a COB so i just mostly read and move on.

Keep up the good work.

Hey xtremek,

I might have and idea for the clamp. I will do my best to explain.

Drill holes in the stock attached to the bench every ten inches or so. Straight through the stock and top. Embed a nut in each hole and weld in flush with the top of the stock.

Get a long piece of flat stock and drill through in the same position as the holes in the table stock. Now simply drop a hex bolt through and tighten down. The number of bolts used depending on the width of stock you are bending / holding.

Sorry if that doesn't make much sense. Here's a badly drawn pic to explain:

Sorry for the poor explanatory and drawing skills.

xtremek, looking forward to se how you go with your brake, its something that I would get a lot use out of here.

Regards

Agreed very curious to the results. I've wanted a break (home made on the bench) like yours for a while too!

I have very little space (8ft by 11ft) but hopefully next summer the missus will let me rebuild the shed... which means I'll have to get into gear and do a build thread... and I get to do new benches and a small break [emoji3]
