Here’s pics of the gasser wagon all finished up. It looks pretty good I think. Last weekend I did get a little time in the barn. I spent most of the weekend cleaning the bench. I got tired of not being able to find the right grit sandpaper when I needed it. So I made this little shelving unit out of pieces of scrap wood. I’m still cleaning the garage, but I did take some time to squeeze the next toy in. I should’ve made the tail light box a lot deeper, but it’ll be ok in the end. This weekend was spent mowing and tinkering on my daughter's trucks. I really need to get things moving faster.

Lifes good. Been busy at work and busy at home. If im not working im riding. I do stop in here several time a week to see whats going on.
You really need to get that Suzuki going. You know all work and no wind therapy will make ya an old man really fast. Need to feel the breeze and relax sometimes. I bet the wifey might even like a ride or two.

I've read a bit of the 33 pp. so far, you are a busy guy. Others have said, "keep plugging-away, you make progress each day." A lot of us are doing something similar I bet. Seeing some things others have accomplished makes me realize I need to work more! What gets done is making room for the next project. It will never end.
I just got a wonderful compliment. I spent a bit of time yesterday working on a cabinet build from a knock-down, and I had our 4 yr.old grandson helping. He's been allowed into the shop since he was 3 and knows not to touch anything unless he's told to. I get him to help me, "hold this, I'm going to use screws and glue to fasten the wood together to make a box." He watched the box get finished, and then he told me, "Grandpa, you have to have a top for the box." I took him outside and showed him the 300 lb piece of L-shaped granite that will go onto the row of cabinets. He was very careful to cover it back-up.
Mommy and daddy live less than a mile from us, we get to see them frequently. The little guy is getting used to spending time in the shop, yesterday, he came and sat on the stoop, and said, "Grandpa, I can't come into the garage because I don't have my shoes on!" One of the rules to enter the garage shop. I told him he could come help, that I could use him if he wanted to work, so he immediately jumped-up and got his shoes on, and came back. I put him to work, and he likes to sweep and to run the shop vacuum, so he did that. I wrapped-up what I was doing, and we quit for the day. The little guy went home.
This morning, as he got out of bed, he told his mother, "Mommy, can we go to (Gramacita's and grandpa's street name) this morning? I want to help grandpa in the garage!" That did my heart a lot of good.
I see from your thread that you live off US 127. Do you know where US 27 starts? It begins in Miami Florida about two blocks from Biscayne Bay, very close to where the Miami Heat NBA plays, at American Airlines Arena. Get on US 27 there, and in about 1300 miles, you'll be north of Lansing. The government has removed much of the old US 27 signage, and I think there are still parts labeled as-such. I spent time in college, a long time ago, in your neck of the woods.
I'll be watching for your work accomplishments. Progress!

Hey driftpin thanks for dropping by. That info about US 27/127 is news to me. I think I have a new item for my bucket list, drive 27/127 from start to finish, right up there with the Albuquerque Balloon Festival and driving Route 66. Since you brought it up,I got to see my gkids last night. It was such a treat.
So I was headed home on Thursday when I noticed an estate sale sign. My first estate sale. I headed straight for the shed. It reeked of racoon urine. Anyway,I picked up a Cman wood lathe for my wife (I tolerate wood as a means to an end) for the princely sum of $25.
The next bit has a little backstory to it. So a few weeks ago my wife decided she wanted to start a non-profit org to help faculty obtain funding to for intercity student help. We made the deal that she could buy a laptop if I could buy a lathe for about the same price. So by the end of the evening Friday we had his and hers lathes with some tooling, costing us a grand total of $775. Now I start looking for a 3 jaw chuck for the metal lathe, and the plate and dead (live?) center for the wood lathe?
One question, what are these for?

If I had to guess I would say that's a "knockout tool" for unseating a tapered center used in the headstock/spindle. In other words it reaches down thru the spindle bore as sort of a hammer to pop out the (likely) dead center point.
Congrats on the latheS! My first lathe was that one except a parent-company Atlas @ 54" between centers. My free advice is to learn to grind HSS toolbits. This lathe is not a good choice for positive rake carbides. If there's any noticeable (let's just say more than .020") backlash in the cross slide, do yourself a favor and get a new cross-screw and nut. It will make your life a lot easier. I fought this for a long time not knowing how much grief it was causing.

where do you find wheels for all your wagons?
Hey guys and gals, just to let you know I’ve found my motivation. Parts of it were hiding in a 5th wheel TT, parts in a lathe, parts in a tidy barn, and parts in a hoped for race car. Anyway, I started building the gates for my wife’s garden. 54 holes later, I thought I’d share my crazy jig. The cool thing is that the scraps are big enough to build a bench for my lathe. Double score for me and her. I’ve attached the last pic, but you can barely make out the shape of a heron standing in our pond. A first for us. I watched as it was snacked on frogs.
So next question, if you were going to build a bench for your lathe, how would you lay it out? What features would you include? I already know I want to have a place to hang chuck keys. What about the big drill bits and taper adapters?

So I dropped by Alro to get some steel to make a set of shelves for the pool stuff. My wife should never let me go there alone. I spent way too much money. Anyway, I made a comment that I loved shopping there. The counter guy told me a story of a guy that came in and started looking at all the material there. The guy said, ”Wait a minute, I’m going to go get my wife. She made me go with her into Joanne Fabrics, I’m making her come into here with me”. Well played to that man. 
So, the long weekend wasn’t as productive as I hoped. I did get the frames for the garden gates started. Here’s a plug for everyone to go check a great thread. While I was welding in the corners, it made me think of the build thread of bggrnchy. Check it out, it’s really cool. I realized the gates are going to need bracing to keep the sides from collapsing when I stretch the fencing in the center. Another trip to Alro this coming weekend…..darn. But building them sure did trash the barn.
I did get the big doors put back together. The wind caught the doors last winter and kind of messed the right one up. Four pieces of trim, including the bottom piece were off. I Liquid Nailed and used longer nails to put them back together. I hope they stay together this time.
The McGuire Procurement Division found a few gems for me. This mower/cart will become more raw material for probably 2 different custom wagons. Most of the metal will become the basis for some future product. The top sheet (1/4” pressed wood) will become more shelving for the sandpaper organizer. I’m thinking the second sheet (aluminum) might become a wing or two to some wagons.

Thanks Gents, I hope your holidays were blessed with love, joy, and happiness.
So, it’s been a long while since I last posted. It’s was a hectic fall. My better half took the family to Traverse City, then took me to San Francisco, and then Milwaukee. SF was cool, but the food was expensive and not that great. Did go to Brizio’s, Dud Perkin’s HD, Arlen Ness (I actually got to meet the man himself), Lombard Street, Pier 39, Muir Woods, Sausalito, the cable car museum, China Town, and Golden gate park…..
Milwaukee had incredible food that was half the price. Saw the HD museum, and Wisconsin Car Museum. And then work has been super busy as well. What a fall.

Just so you know, I wasn’t lazy around the house. I built this shed for my wife. It’ll sit right in the garden so she has easy access to her garden tools. Sublime would be proud, I only had to buy about $40 worth of lumber to finish it, everything else I had laying around. The next quick project I did was a rack to hang all the chains on. Another fast project I did was a bench for my wife to do her woodworking on. You can see it, and the plaques I’m making for some people I work with, and one for my wife. Again, Fergus would be proud, the total investment in the bench couldn’t be beat, $0. With all this wood used, I can finally pull a car in the barn, and have room to work around it. But now I’ll have to add another row of outlets in order for her to be able to do her thing.

I did a couple of more things over between the holidays. My dad came over and helped me put up more tin on the ceiling. After we got that bunch done, he noticed that we didn’t do anything to offset the seams. Too bad we didn’t notice it earlier. From this point forward, that’ll be rectified. I also finished a bracket to mount a second TV to the wall (made out of old bed frame), and pulleys to hang the ladders from the ceiling. I did some vehicle repairs on my daily driver (oil change, front struts and 1 rear wheel bearing), and my daughter swapped out a bad HVAC temp actuator. While her truck was in the barn, I mounted this light tube to the back of her seat. The next projects are making a table to put my lathe on, working toward completing the ceiling insulation, and wiring.

And just so you don’t think Robin’s a slacker (actually I just want to brag on her), the day after Christmas she ripped out the sink cabinet and counter top that had rotted out. We bought an unfinished sink cabinet, she finished that, laid down the plywood, cement board and tiles. She hopes to have it grouted today, sealed tomorrow, and sink back in by Friday. It’ll be nice to get the kitchen back and looking reasonable.

Glad to hear you've been busy. And that is some awesome tile work that Robin did. I know what it takes to lay tile and grout. It's not one of my favorite tasks.

Wow!! He is alive and breaths. Man you have been busy. Great looking shed and the plaques are really nice. Good idea on the chain. All mine end up in a metal milk crates. what a pain when needed.
Your wifes tile work is looking good. Be sure to show the finished project. I have a project like that coming up . My wife came up with a really deep double sink she wants in the kitchen and the existing counter top wont work so she is full of sugestions and im taking the easiest one.
All that work and time for a vacation across half the states and see all them places. Man you done wore me out just reading and thinking about all that.
