Between 705 & 1200 SQ/FT A trip back from the edge.

I’m trying to get an area of the yard cleared to fence in for the ducks. They like to sit under stuff like pine trees, I guess so they don’t have to worry about the hawks in the area getting them. So I chained to old mule to this little weed and after about 3 dozen yanks, the pines are a little cleaner. I also finished putting the chicken wire in the small gate to the garden. I doubled over the ends of the chicken wire hoping it’ll last longer. Almost done with this gate, two more to go.

Hey, that's a right proper looking wire fence. The ducks and garden sold be happy.

One thing to check if you are using your phone to take the pics. Sometimes when I turn my phone horizontal to take a picture the motion sensor inside does not rotate the image fast enough and I snap a picture before it changes to landscape mode. Then when I transfer the picture to my computer it ends up sideways and I have to rotate it back before using on GJ.

So I guess always make sure your phone snapped the pic in the orientation you desire and, if needed, rotate the picture and re-save afterward.
There could also be other reasons this can happen but that's one I've experienced before. I'm using an iPhone 6 and use an Apple computer.

Thanks for the compliment. Those pics were sideways when I took them, but I rotated them before I saved them to my laptop, a Dell.

So here’s the latest on the repairs to the core support. I had this done this far but I started making the indent the wrong way. Anyway, one side done. Using the ¼” plate and real 1”x ash scrap I had laying around. I think it’ll work.

What did you use to make the chicken wire fence panels? I really like the way they look and I need to redo my fencing for our backyard hens.

Hey BoilerMF, I used 1" square tube, then drilled through holes every foot of the verticals. I threaded 3/8" flat stock through the chicken wire and used J bolts to stretch it. The gates are 8' tall, so I used 2 rows and have zipped tired the two pieces together and at the top and bottom. I hope this helps. And it helps that I like to weld.

So you guys are either going to groan, or laugh at this one. This morning was the morning for animals to either try or succeed in committing suicide by Kirk. About 3 miles from the house, Bambi was successful, leaving a busted fender, and a streak of what I believe is poo down the side of my car. Then it was a possum about ½ mile later, and then a **** about another ¾ mile, both unsuccessful. The rest of the commute was uneventful. After ½ hour at work, the urge moved me to conduct royal business. Once business was completed, I reached into the TP dispenser to find…………………………nothing. Bend down to see if there’s anyone who can throw me a roll. Nope. Commence the waddle of shame to the next stall where I’m finally able to complete the required task. Talk about a ****** start to my day. I warned you.

For those following along in your play book, the day didn’t end quite as crappy as it started, but close. I’ve been replacing the AC compressor in the TBlazer (hard to get much done in 2 hours a night) the last few days. It had a leak I couldn’t find, so I took it to a local shop where they fixed it by replacing the manifold hose. But there’s repairing it, and there’s repairing it right. This is what I found. As the self-proclaimed king of hack, I wouldn’t have let it leave the shop like this, even if did fix the issue (it did). In removing the “burr”, I did nick the fitting, but I’m hoping it’s far enough out that it won’t leak. We’ll find out tonight.

wow, you are getting a lot of adversity! I hit a raccoon about 2 weeks ago at 2 dark 30 to do a well pressure tank replace on the west side of the state (thankfully I was carpooling!) and i saw it had broken up the front plastic splash shield on my malibu. I drove home later from the carpool lot to check out the damage and saw coolant leaking out of the radiator...DOH. The part wasn't too bad but I had the vehicle looking like a Mad Max creation for awhile with all of the parts and front end removed.

I hope your A/C repair goes well, that does look like a poor job of hoping the center bolt would just pull it all up tight...too bad you had to open it up again...

GB and FWill, thanks for dropping in. And you're both right. The nice thing about this is that it was just a fender and a waddle of shame, both of which are/were easily rectified. And it does eventually happen to everyone.

So this past weekend was huge for this old man. After the “******” day on Wednesday, : the weekend was awesome. Friday I stopped on the way home and picked up two items from the late in-laws. Robin wants a smaller roto-tiller for her to be able use it and I want the sprayer in order to chloride the driveway. After that, I picked up this toy. It’s a Central Machinery and it’s not the great a machine, but then again I’m not that great a machinist, so I think this is perfect me. The big win is all the other stuff he threw in. I think that stuff is worth 10 times that I paid for the mill.

Any suggestions on what to do about the rust? Should I just leave it? The deck of the mill has significant amount of rust as well.

was at Boy Scout Camp last week and had that happen in the shower house rest room.

Had to use the Paper towels to finish business on that end! I was nice for the next guy as I left 3 paper towels on the TP holder for the next soul to use the stall!

I'd just give the rust a once over with some steel wool by hand and use the mill best you can and go from there!

Then there was Sunday. For ever since I can remember, I’ve wanted an old COE. I’ve been looking long and hard for one that’s in decent shape, at a reasonable price, and not half way across the country. So for the past 3 years, I’ve been stalking Craigslist and eBay, and I finally found one. I won this one last week off of eBay and a couple of friends helped me drag it home. One step closer to starting my dream rod.

When I get around to working on this beast, should I start a separate thread for it? Or should I start a thread for all of my auto related fab work? Or just leave it in this thread.

If rust a small, then a good and simple way to cover with on what the time rusty place cloth soaked in diesel fuel. Then wipe with a rag. You can also use the WD-40, but diesel works better though slower.

Thanks GB, it was a great weekend for me. I'll say this, the COE is a LOT shorter than I thought. It's going to make me rethink how I do everything and still have the portions I want. Back to the drawing board, literally.

So like a few of the other guys on GJ, I have the week off, thanks to Generous Motors. The temps have really high, so I haven’t been as productive as I hoped. I started off priming and painting the eaves on the Duck House. Then, for the princely sum of ~$10, I made a rack for bathing suits and towels for the pool area. I sprayed some heavy duty Roundup on the 6’ tall thistle on the pool patio and some other “junk” around the place. I also did some minor repairs and maintenance to the mower. Amazing how much easier things move when they’re greased.

Nice score on the COE. Because GJ is so nice about not capping thread sizes (from what I can tell) ... I would not start a new thread and show us more pictures of that beast!

The intersection with your car and Bambi: some years ago - my little sister was hit by a deer in her little saturn, and the collision totaled it. Left a portion of the rack in the windshield, and hit the driver front wheel so hard that the wheel bearing/CV joint and associated bolts broke. It was a total mess, and that was in the middle of the day! You're lucky the deer didn't do more damage.

Looks like you were productive in spite of the heat. I didn't realize GM and Ford were taking the same week off. I guess it makes sense with the 4th holiday and all.
I did get some things done as well but man, some of those hot days I could only work outside for 15-20 minutes at a time before having to come in and cool off.
