HURRAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After 14 days of quarantine and no symptoms, I'm free to roam. Of course I won't. Six people at work tested positive for c-19 before they quit announcing it.

Anyway, we were told to work from home 2 weeks ago and you'd think I'd be tearing up the to-do list. Instead, I'm sleeping more (I get close to a full 8 hours now), and boy does it feel good. I feel almost human for the first time in years.

So I haven’t put anything “garage” up in a while. My better half talked me into stopping on the dump truck and getting back on the F-150 S’crew. The cheap core support seemed to have a few fit issues to get the sheet metal close enough to spot weld to the inner fender structure. First, slice the core support, and open it up enough to get it to meet the inner fender. Bead rolled a filler piece, the then weld it in. Hop over to the other side. I did this during the weeknights. I’ve got a few thin spots on the one side to fix, then smooth out the inside a little and she’s ready to go on.

On the weekends, I spent my time putting the new motor in. Had a friend come over one night and helped me get the intake together while I searched for missing bolts. Anyway, it’s been a long time since the old one came out, and though we did a decent job of marking stuff, I guess we missed a few things. My daughter came out and helped me find a few of the missing electrical connections. Now it’s to the point I need to put the core support on.

I have 3 jacks, but only one of them was worth a flip. Then my only good jack died. It would still pump up and hold, but every time I pushed the handle down, I’d get a big gusher past the plunger piston. Time to do jack repair. The rusty looking one only needed fluid. Then I put a new o-ring on my trusty jack, back in business.

But this Blackhawk has me wondering. The issue is that it will pump up, but won’t hold the load. So I bought the rebuild kit, but when I took it apart, it seems like the jack is missing pieces. I’ll get a hold of Lazzar’s and see what they say.

And on an entirely different note, you may remember that I made my son a custom radio flyer wagon. Well, since things are slowing down for him at work, he straightened the fender I made for him, and painted it and the frame black. I feel pretty good about how it turned out. I know I only get partial credit, but he did make it look really good.

Nice progress for a guy who just sleeps all the time.
I agree with the wife, you are all going to be very happy when that rig rolls under its own power again.

Preach that, though it won't be road ready. It needs all new brakes and brake lines, a roll pan/rear bumper, and some electrical work. But my daughter will start footing the bill...............I hope.

Glad you mentioned a Honey-do list. I have another post I need to upload. But I haven't really touched house related stuff.

Glad to see you cleared the quarentine.

I WFH normally and we've been very busy, so I haven't gotten any more time to do stuff. Good job on the little projects

Yeah, I think Robin is happier about it than I am. I think she was really worried that I might get the beer bug. 4 confirmed cases in my building, but my building holds about 3000 people. THe hard part will be going back to a real commute. I'm getting real used to my 15 minute commute. Go out and turn the heat on in the barn, come in and do the 3 "S's", got back out and feed the ducks, then put a DVD in the player and start in on the e-mails. I sure don't miss 4 hours on the road.

Nice work making the rad support fit and all your other projects. Good to see folks keeping busy. I know it inspires me to get off the couch.
Now I should be inspired about hydraulic jack repair. Guilty myself of having a couple that lost their poop and likely need new seals but I tend to push them aside and get another when in the middle of a job. Then they get ignored. Luckily Amazon still works so I’ll have to follow your lead and order some replacement parts.

Lots of projects.....

I have a suspicion that the upside to the stay at home and work is that many companies will see a benefit and allow people to continue to work from home. Avoiding the tiring commute and be able to immediately start work in the morning is a benefit to the company, as well as for the employee. How much lost time is there from people shooting the **** at the water cooler or the coffee machine?

The key is for remote workers to demonstrate that this will work....

I see the biggest barrier is the old school type managers that want to "see" their people at set times thru the day, instead of looking at results. clear communication with those types of managers and making sure that they "see" the results of remote working will help with this transition.

Too many projects., But I'm slowly getting back to chipping away a them. As far as the second point, I'm not quite as efficient as I would be from the office (satellite internet just doesn't really work), but the other part is not everyone is accountable. I spent days trying to get information from a young co-worker, only to be ignored repeatedly (at least 6 times).

I promised pictures of a honey-do list project. The hot water has been slowly disappearing for weeks, so I got to put a new one in. We turn the water back on and I hear Robin laughing really hard. I run up to the bathroom after making sure I didn’t have any leaks. She said, “You should have seen it when it first came out, it looked like mud, like actual mud”.

Seems like it's always something, huh, Kirk. At least you got it going, and flushed out all the pipes at the same time!

Yep, and after we see what the next paycheck looks like, it maybe time to finally get a water softener. I already told Robin we'll have to get a plumber in to do the whole house particle filter, no shut-off between the well and the bladder, or the cold water for the faucets. I'll have them plumbing outside the wall for hydrants at the duck house and garden at the same time.

So I just finished reading through this whole thread, off and on for the last few weeks. I gotta say xtremek, your endless efforts have been a real inspiration for me to get some stuff done lately. I'm doubly glad I got those things done because work has picked up, likely won't get to any more for a while.

Hey Jolly, glad you enjoyed the trip through my insanity. Thank you for the compliment. That is a very cool thing about GJ, that part of me is normal here.

For the first time in more years than I can remember, I wasn't exhausted at the end of the work day. Might have something to do with that 99.2% reduction in commute time. Anyway, I had some energy left, so I tackled a job I've been dying to finish, the trim on the barn. I've had the edge trim primered and first coat done since last fall. I still have to get the wood for the window trim, buy a new man door, and build flower boxes for the windows. While I was putting stuff away, a squadron of Canadian Honkers strafed the house and landed on the pond. There were about 20 of them (they're the little white specks). About 20 minutes later, they took off.

Nice work on the barn. I agree with you that the long drive home on a regular work day saps your energy. Most days I leave work with thoughts of accomplishment in my head but am too tired when I get done driving home. It is nice to get up from the home desk and avoid that drive and then get a project done before supper.

I find if you get home and the wife is ticked off at you
or the rest of the world works just as well
I'm able to find energy and motivation to work on shop projects till the hurricane/tornado in the house passes.

Don't recommend this route but if you want to get projects done pick I fight with the better half and then lay low and work on said projects with the idea being they need to be done asap.

Try this at your own risk results may vary on female disposition!

My hat's off to you two clowns. These days (pre C-19) I usually have to sit in the car for a minute or two before I have enough energy to even get out of the car, so not enough energy to even think of a remark to get something started.

A great housebound read, so many threads I've missed.. The trim I'm sure was a good feeling on the barn, always feels nice to not have that 'in progress' label on a project.

Good to get an outstanding project out of the way. I must ask though, did I read it right, hang flower box on shop? Lol.
