or put 33 tires on the trailer?

how often are you going to be using the goose neck trailer?

just let the air out on the rear tires on the truck would work as well! LOL

Just leave it. Easier to unload that way.

You're right. The Old Mule almost rolled off on me.

I was on white-ish stuff yesterday

Yours is beautiful but noooooo!

How do you ski on that stuff? And when you're in the shop or the tractor, it's 68*ish, so who cares? But I definitely wouldn't advise wearing the Florida safety shoes to get to either.

When my snowmobile trailer looked like that with my Ramcharger, I just took the 33's off it that it came with and replaced them with 30's. :)

I don't know if they make a low profile tire in a E or F load range.

LOL

SWMBO wants to start a business processing hemp, so it would see a lot of use. Going to head to the local trailer store (Beck's) to see if a different trailer is an option. Let enough air out so they're as flat as my brain right now?

That trailer is a pretty light duty trailer in the scheme of things, heavier trailers would probably sit a bit higher, my guess is they have the ability to order trailers with different hitch ranges and heights. My gooseneck is converted to a fifth wheel and sits pretty even on my big trucks.

Now you have a good reason to put other things aside and build your COE! Could you get by with a receiver or pintle hitch and trailer? It would be possible to lower the truck somehow but is it worth that time and money?:headscrat

Again, we're on the same page. I'm headed to the local big trailer store (they have around 10 acres of trailers) this afternoon to check things out. They should at least be able to get me clued into my options.

Good point Jim(?). I was going to head down the rabbit hole of making alterations to the Girlfriend to make the gooseneck work, but I'm going to use her in the current state of hitch (she still needs other work done) until the COE is done, then I might revisit her hitching.

Kirk,
Did you get much snow last night?
We got plenty to give you if you don't have enough.

Hey Jon, we only got about 7"-8". If you want, you can send another 10"-12" our way. Since we're on the subject of snow, I've come to the conclusion that 3" is the breakpoint. Any less than that, and I use the Old Mule. Any more than that, I'll borrow the neighbor's Kubota. Robin suggested we buy a similar sized tractor, until she saw the prices. I was worried I was going to have to rush her to the hospital from the heart attack (I'm seeing Fred Sanford in my mind).

That trailer place sounds great. We have a local place like that and when they get anything that is older than 10 years, they usually wholesale it out the door, might be able to find a deal. New trailer prices might take Robin out, so be careful.

Yeah, these guys aren't going to get me any deals. Typical for this area, they think their stuff is made of gold. But I hope they're at least knowledgeable.

Could you put a snowblower on the mule? If you could do that and fab up a way to mount the blade on the front that would be pretty slick.

Yes, they make a 3pt hitch rear mount pto snow blowers. They're not horrible in price (I see them used for about $1500 to $2k). I also don't have a hydraulic bucket on the front. But I'm not sure it's worth it, since this is really the first winter where we've had enough snow worth plowing, and the neighbor has no problems loaning out his equipment, as long as you return it like you found it. And I do odd equipment repairs for him from time to time.

The light in our bedroom quit working a couple of weeks ago. All of the bulbs (3) were burned out and replacing the bulbs did nothing. When the switch was on, it buzzed. I took it apart and found the voltage regulator blown apart. I didn't channel my inner Vieux, but my inner Bob Heine. I could have replaced just the blown cap, but for $15, we just replaced the whole regulator.

FWIW, went to the trailer store and they took one look at my deck height on the GF and said no one makes a trailer with that tall a hitch height. The deck is a little over 3 1/2' tall.Time to find a used trailer we like and rework the hitch. Shouldn't be a huge deal to cut the vert tube off, and weld it on a little higher.

And Strouty, I was going to use the latch hangers as mud flap brackets as well, but the gas tank filler necks get in the way. The lift pump will end up inside the frame rails anyway.

I agree that it shouldn’t be too thought to rework the tube, they are generally adjustable. If you can, make it so it will still fit a normal height setup with minimal adjustment.

Could you get the ball mounted to the truck frame and just have a hatch through the bed rather than the hitch attached to the bed? Of course that would ruin a lot of what you already did.

Kirk, I'm honored to be in the same sentence as Vieux.

I was thinking (not always a good idea) you could increase the height of the hitch on your current trailer. If you cut off the hitch assembly just above the trailer frame, leaving a decent size flange, could you add a couple of bolt-on plates and have a tall enough hitch? Maybe even sandwich with double plates? Then make a second set of plates to restore the original height hitch if and when you want to sell the trailer.

Any hitch that mounted to the truck frame would require removing the dump cylinder, since the ball sits right over the top of the cylinder.

You should be honored, because he is incredibly smart. But that honor was not given, you have earned it.

The neighbor's trailer hitch was all the way up on the adjustment. My thought is to raise it 6"-9", and I'll still have enough adjustment to work on almost anything else.

I forgot those two things were fighting for the same space.

Yeah, and when I move the lift pump to add the second gas tank, it's going to get very crowded under there.

Moving the tube up on the trailer is the way to go. It's the easiest and fastest solution.

I have to make sure there's still room between the box sides and the horizontal part of the hitch.

Robin and I have now joined the lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. She’s wanted a trailer for a long time, so we finally got one. The GF had no issues towing her home, so I guess my welds are decent enough. When we got home, I found out I couldn’t back the White Whale into her spot with the amount of area I had cleared. Guess I’ll be adding a ton more to the driveway this summer, so the Old Mule, the Girlfriend, and I will be earning our keep.

And here I thought you were one of us down to earth penny pinching hardworking type of folk. :lol_hitti

Looks nice! Did you get a good deal on it? I'm not in the RV market but the ones I've seen just by scrolling through Marketplace/Kijiji sure seem to have a healthy Covid tax on them.

I mean I do drive a GMC. I might even have enough money to drive a Buick that wasn't built in the last century, or a 90's Caddy.:rocker:

To be honest, I don't know. SWMBO is the one who architected the deal. It's a '09, so we definitely didn't pay top dollar.

Nothing better than camping especially with a nice bed. Fire, beverages and BSing.

Yeah, these old bones can't handle sleeping on the ground anymore. On top of which, my better half has quite a bit of family who also does RV camping.

Nice addition! Jump on campground sites now and try to book sites. They will all be selling out fast this summer. Worse even than last summer by early reports I'm reading. We'll probably have another year or two with our old pop-up before I can swing a new travel trailer unless we stumble on a deal through friends.

Luxury camping. Very nice and hope you get in some great trips with the new trailer this year.

Thanks. With this work from home, I can do my job anywhere as long as I have a cell connection, so I'm ready to hit the road NOW!

The old 13” tube TV died after Christmas, so I grudgingly coughed up $100 to buy a huge TV. The problem was it just sat on top of the old shelf brackets, with no real stability. In true Butthead MaGoo/Hack Shack fashion every possible expense was spared in the construction of the wall mount. Extra bonus, the DVD player now sits on the old TV brackets. Extra point if you can tell me what movies are on the screen.

Hey, any time you can accomplish something without needing to spend money is great.

Although I don't know how you guys with TV's in your shops get any work done. I certainly wouldn't lol.

Sometimes I don't get anything done. I absolutely hate working alone. So if I put in a dumb movie, like the Fast and Furious franchise, the sound kind of lessens that feeling.

I’ll put on vintage tv shows. Background noise and don’t have to watch to follow along. Plus it’s interesting seeing the future stars in their beginnings.

IT isn't much different than having the radio on. Just background noise.

I have never sat and just watched TV. Since I was a kid I had a book or a game or something else that I was doing while the TV is on.

This is why I listen to OTA radio in the shop. I prefer having a living DJ yammering in the background, or even better a ballgame. Since so many radio stations have gone to canned tapes that repeat endlessly, it's becoming a problem for me.

I get the background noise, I always have a radio on when I'm working. Well actually spotify; listening to what I want without adds and without the same song repeating 4-5x is

I guess I just get too distracted by the TV. If I even start to listen to it I'll hear something and think I'm missing out on what's going on, so I'll have to watch it.

Spotify costs money, so nope.

I usually get action flicks, since they rarely have any plot. Watch it once and you're good with missing most of it. Like I said, the Fast and Furious franchise, almost any recent Tom Cruise movie, especially a Mission Impossible.
