What did you learn at the hemp thing

We learned a TON. The biggest thing we learned was that we're not making any blatant mistakes, other than not putting down fertilizer when we planted, which we knew was an issue. Got some ideas for harvesting, and decorticating (separating the short inner fibers from the long outers). It all boils down to a lot more fabricating work for me. So the '52 gets set back another couple of months.

Ok ok I’ve been dragon on reading your post. Truss me, I’m keeping an eye on you because you don’t need to be headed for another injury. I think you should high tail it down here for the upcoming safety course.

nice buggy, looks just like my first RC car.

I'd love to come down for a visit, but no unnecessary traveling until the shop is up, and the hemp is harvested. I hope that means no trips to the ER for stitches.

Old news, this past weekend we did a hemp thing in Indiana. We learned a ton, but mostly that we’re not far off the mark. Our hemp looked ok compared to this farm. The first pic is the same variety we’re growing (from Poland), and a consistent 5' tall. The second picture is a French variety. And we learned we have a ton to do. Make sure your tables are in the upright and locked position, the wild ride will continue.

We haven't even finished clearing the site yet. I was hoping to do that this weekend, but the GF will barely run. For it to even idle, timing is about 25* BTC. Thought the valves might be too tight, but I backed them off at least a 1/2 turn from my initial setting. Going to look for vacuum leaks next, Did some some repairs to the sickle mower, only to have it break in the field. Saturday we went to the west side of Indy to look at a hay crimper, only to be met by a incredibly rude jerk. We kept our money, didn't even bother to look at it.

Gee, three swings and 3 misses. You're outta there.

I wish I had that option. Just replaced the carb base gasket, and all of the vacuum lines. I'm going to see if I can get the timing close to what it should be and check for more vacuum leaks. Also going to run a compression test. I'm kind of afraid of what I'll find.

Get a can of carb cleaner and start spraying the lines and gaskets. Even under the dash around the heater, vaccum controls

I'm going to use silicone, don't want to mess up the pretty new paint on the intake, if I can ever get it to stay running at anything under 2000 rpm's. And no vacuum controls for the HVAC, this is old school cables.

Usually use carb cleaner, but I've even used water in a squirt gun. Found a leak, the carb base plate is the big culprit. She's still not running right, but I need her working two weeks ago, so I put her to work. After I get the new shop site prepped, I'm going to go back through the valves again and try a different carb on her. I screwed the idle mixture screws all the way in and there was no change in how she ran, though the idle is still pretty high. I think the internal choke passage is leaking as well.

It has been a while since I really dealt with a carb, in my personal vehicles I went straight to fuel injection, but we had enough of them floating around that I still had to deal with them. I can do the basics, but after that I am not any help.

From the picture, the firing order looks right and the position of the cap looks good, but 25 degrees is a lot, are you off a tooth?

HJ, you're right on both accounts. Things have been lurching along. The GF is operational, barely, so I put her back into service….for now. Once the She Shed Sight is cleared, I’ll start looking a little closer to what the issue is. As stated, the sickle mower died close to the end, this close, ugghhhh. So we used the rehabilitated hedge trimmer my Old Man gave us.Last truck load 1.jpg

On a more exciting note. While trying to clean up a few widow makers left up in the trees from Robin pulling the stumps, we were using the neighbor’s tractor as a ladder. The chainsaw ran out of gas 90% through a limb. Just as I was restarting the chainsaw, I heard a crack and turned in time to see the large branch I had been cutting go crashing through the windshield. Fortunately, Robin was only startled. Can’t figure out why it fell that way, the notch was over 90* to the direction it dropped. $750 later.Oops.jpgOops Cured.jpg

And I’m SLOWLY working on Smooth (’03 F-150 S’crew). This is the brake line that goes to the rear axle. It probably could have went another couple of years, what do you think? :lol_hitti

Nothing truer could be said about that, but could have been so much more horrible for Robin........ money comes hard but goes so easy :yikes:

Yeah she got lucky and so did I. Any later, and I'd have been on the pallet forks and in it's way. Just glad she dodged that 15' bullet.

I'm surprised that the front window on that tractor isn't tempered glass.

It was tempered. It shattered into a bazillion little pieces.

***** about the windshield. Glad it wasn't any worse.

I hear you. Tractors we can fix. People are a lot harder.

That's not quite the update I expected but I'm glad Robin didnt get hit. Stuff like that is going to happen regardless of how careful a person is, dont sweat it and just carry on. I need to get my **** in gear and knock a couple more projects off of my list,
Keep smiling buddy.

Yeah Jon, trying to get everything done before the inclement weather hits. Too much to do, not enough time to do it.

Ugghhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stopped to help a neighbor last night, put up hay. I was on the wagon by myself, feeding bales to 3 high school teenagers in the loft. 225ish bales in an hour. Boy am I feeling it, felt good last night though. Boy, I don't miss it. Tough story. Grandpa just had a chunk of his colon removed, dad (47 yrs. old) had a massive stroke (can't talk, can't move his right side, and has just learned to stand, for about a minute), and the 17 yr old son has his left arm in a cast (including all of fingers, caught it in the baler). The boy was still up in the loft moving bales.

What a horrible run of luck for that family... I’m afraid I would have helped them also and highly regretted the pain after as well.
May the Karma kiss you back when you need it to.
