6"x6"x20' (15cm x15cm x6m)for the short ones. 16' (5m) is sticking out of the ground..

My body feels like I'm building one, though the header was pretty easy.

Well I can see why. I handled a couple 6x6x14' posts for a gate project once and they were a treat to handle by myself. 20' posts would be a bear to handle. Don't over do it K, slow and steady.

When they were wet, they were a bear. And unfortunately, I have to keep the hammer down. I don't want to be messing with the roof tin when there's the white stuff. Siding and doors I'm not worried about, but I don't want to take a sleigh ride off that roof.

My neighbor had an issue with his horse trailer, taking it somewhere off-road he shouldn’t have. The awning was pretty messed up (among other parts of the trailer and his truck), so he let me have it. I'll use it for for a tarp over the Girlfriend's dump box. Glad home was only a short trip.

I know, I know, I’m a broken record. But seriously, I’m way too freaking old for this stuff. Put my first 3 headers up back on Tuesday. Was on the road for Generous Motors Wednesday and Thursday. Friday morning was nothing but errands. Got about 4 hours sleep Friday night, so Saturday morning was toast. But at the end of the day today this is where I’m at. I’ll say this, I have no clue how the tower boys do it. When I lift weights, I stand on the Bosu Ball, so I thought I was ready for this. ROTFLMA0. Dang I hurt. During the same time, I’ve been spending my evenings working on the the Girlfriend. The engine is bolted in, clutch, pressure plate, and bellhousing are on, but I’m having a real hard time stabbing the trans. And just because Strouty asked, here’s the boot shot.

Thanks guys for the encouragement. I want these things done in the worst way. I'm getting the itch to get to the '52 started, enough so that I bought the Caddy, and I just put a down payment 💸 on the motor rebuild for it. But before the '52 comes in, the She Shed needs to be dried in, the Girlfriend needs to be done, and the Hack Shack needs to settled/organized.

Kirk: Glad to see some horizontal pieces going up, for a minute I thought you were recreating Polehenge.

Those 20 foot 6x6's gotta be brutal to handle. The guy over by Ovid that built my barn had found an old Consumers pole truck, had everything including the auger. The only problem was the hydraulics leaked like an old inner tube. Created a Superfund site in my front yard.

I'll try to keep the snow flurries down here on the South county line!

Working in the cold always takes a lot more time, when we built towers in the winter (we did a lot of them on mountains) it would generally take twice as long for most things when temps were below 32 degrees. Sometimes you would spend the first half of the day just getting to the site and getting the equipment up and running, I am glad I don't do that anymore (at least not on top of mountains). ;)

At a certain point you will start to really feel the project getting there, at that point momentum will be strong regardless of the white stuff.

keep on keeping on!

though working in the cold meand when you hit your thumb with the hammer the thumb feels warmer for a bit!

Fortunately, everything has been lag bolts or screws so far. And when it does get to nails, we have air nailers. But you're right, it's magic how fast a thumb warms up when hit by a hammer.

They were brutal. On a really good day I could only put in 5 before I was toast. And I appreciate you having my back on the white stuff, but it's coming down fairly steady now. Suppposed to get about 2" tonight.

You got this

I don't really have a choice. But thanks for the encouragement.

Looks like your making good progress Kirk!

Any snow over your way yet? We got 6" here on Sunday.

We didn't get anything over the weekend, at least that you could see on the ground or vehicles. Jon04 got the same as you did, but he's on the west coast of the state.

I hear you on the cold and the momentum thing. I wish I were at the momentum stage with the shop. The Girlfriend is getting that way. The trans is bolted up to the engine. I'm hoping to have it running very soon. That'll break a log jam in the efforts to get my shop back to reasonably organized.

Shut up, just shut up. :lol_hitti Guessing we've got about 6" on the ground now, and it's coming down pretty steady. So all progess on her She Shed is stalled. Means I'm working on the Girlfriend. Still would like to the headers and bottom boards all finished this weekend, along with getting the GF usable.

Thanks, Strouty. About to put the Carharts on and try to get 3 more headers up today. All the stuff under the floorboards is done on the GF. Also ordered a new power steering pump for the her, should be in tomorrow and hopefully have her running before the holiday. It would be great to have the headers and skirt boards done by the end of next weekend. Got to keep pushing.

The Girlfriend’s cabin noise is so bad you literally need to wear earplugs if your riding in her for very long. Had some left over peel-n-seal. Hopefully will help a little. Almost decided to order the vinyl floor covering for her. The debate is do it now, or wait until the new cab is on sometime late next summer. She’ll get used a lot until then. Decisions, decisions.Quiet 1.jpgQuiet 2.jpg

Get some old house carpet, save the new stuff, jmho
I'd reuse the new stuff on the next cab. At least that's what I'm pondreing.
I wouldn't waste too much effort on that cab, once you get the new one, I would use a spray on noise killer on the inside and still use some sort of insulation under the flooring.
My issue is that this thing is TOO loud for any real length of time being in it and I see several hour+ trips in it coming up soon. But I hear you. If it's fairly quick, like the peel and seal, it's worth the effort. I have an OLD can of undercoating I might spray on the bottom side of the cab

So how far in progress is the She Shed?

My sugar shack is enclosed and just needs stove pipes ran. Electric/Water... um I guess there's more work to get done on that yet but Hey the door is on and its dry inside.

Plus the Electric and water are just a extension cord and water hose from the house when its needed.

Dont you have some Radio Head phones?

Just where them when driving the GF. Can jam along to your own tunes and save your hearing as well.

Plus it keeps your ears warm as well during the cold months!

Not a fan of wearing anything that will inhibit my hearing when I drive, in case emergency vehicles intersect my travels.

Stumbling through it. Finished all of the headers and skirt boards. Also got the first truss lifted up into the general vicinty of its home.

Your gonna need to work faster snow is coming!
My Garage build the first year I finished putting the Roof on December 8th I think and I thought I was way way late to be doing that type of work in that weather.

Cold just makes things take longer to get done. Unless your real job is to work outside in the cold then your used to it a bit and deal with working around it. Better than us weekend warrior types anyway.

Keep working on it you'll get there!!!

good call on the being able to hear when driving down the road.

Being a person who's been in the truck with the red flashing lights and having traffic not wanting to get out of the way when your on your way to somebody else bad day event.

I agree with you and Sublime, it used to be illegal to wear headphones on the road, I guess that was one of those silly laws, like driving in the left lane that we dont enforce anymore! rant!
Building is looking good Kirk, I'm trying to get motivated again, I think the turkey has me paralyze!!!

On the headphone issue, a lot of the ones they sell now have a “transparency” mode that lets all the exterior noise into your ears while whatever you are listening to is playing. I use it all the time with my fruit pods, but even then, I only like to use one. The issue with this feature is if you make a really loud noise, like dropping a pipe on the floor or something like that it slams you, then realizes the noise is too loud and cuts out. I just figured everyone should know that when you start talking **** about the idiot wearing full headphones in the line at the grocery store, they may be able to hear you. ;)

I have worn my Headphones driving the 78 a time or 2 down the road but usually have 1 side off the ear. It was mostly I was listening to a football game and the 78 radio is a pain to tune to different stations and I already had the headphones on. Most weekends the headphones are my constant as I put them on and have the radio or game cranking away while I am doing stuff.
