Here is my submission to the thread. Found yesterday at a swap meet for $2. 1/4 drive speed handle. It's been torqued on enough to bend it. Maybe I will take the time to bend it back into shape.....Thought I would share.

Re: A unique Craftsman (Profile Milled)

Elroy has no intentions of digging up old threads but this little string had some good information. It needs a bump and Elroy tells me that he has some fresh observations to make on the current Craftsman combinations. Elroy felt this was as good as place as any to bring this subject to light

The new subject at hand, has to do with the current CNC profiled milled beams typically found on the V ^ Craftsman's. Look closely at the beam of these:

This series Craftsman clearly display tool marks that encompass the full 360 degree perimeter of the wrench. In Elroy's humble opinion he feels fully justified in claiming these have been CNC profiled milled. You can see the chatter marks around the full perimeter and the transition from the beam into the heads are continuous.

Look at how these CNC beams compare to the older "forge and trim" beam in the middle:

Sticks out like a sore thumb:

YEP. It appears to that ***** Elroy, these Craftsman's are fully contoured milled along the edge for 360 degrees . look closely at yours. You may have some as well and if you do they're probably stamped V^

Anyone else have any that are stamped differently??

Elroy,

What is that tapered shaft thing that you have inserted into the combo wrench boxends?

Whatever it is, I have one of them and have wondered what the hell it is.

Looks like "CRAPTSMAN"

Why sure they are. They're just the biggest POS going (not). You just keep right on telling us all about how crappy they are.

Elroy would venture to say these milled beams Craftsman's are every bit as productive as any of the truck brands. As a matter of fact they're made by Armstrong. They're good tools and Elroy tells me that people who bad mouth Craftsman with out knowing the facts are short sighted and uninformed.

Consider yourself enlightened

It's a hammer driven tool for swagging copper tube. Typically used in the field on HVAC work.

I honestly never had any problems with any of the Raised panel Craftsman wrenches, I havent purchased any since the early 90's though. I will say now that ive been introduced to some of the Higher End (Priced) wrenches I can definitely tell a difference in the Comfort level.

I believe he might have been referring to the script on the tool in Borrego's photo above; it kinda looks like "CRAPTSMAN"...

You should try some of these milled beams Craftsman's. Much more comfortable than the old die trimmed versions that display the knife edge beam.

Too bad Craftsman doesn't offered these milled beams in a full polished version. Elroy would venture to say Sears would have a real winner if they did.

On the wrong side of the tracks.
Here are 4 of the MANY Craftsman wrenches we've collected over the years. Sorry for the bad pics! :)

Top: Craftsman Vanadium "AF" box end 3/8x7/16
Second: Craftsman "=V=" open end 3/4x7/8
Third: Craftsman "-V-" open end 3/8x7/16
Last: Craftsman "VV" open end 3/8x7/16

We did not buy any of them new, unfortunately.

I wasn't condeming the wrench, It really looks like it says CRAPTSMAN. Maybe the way the camera is held, don't know. If you remember I was the one who started the thread about Craftsman wrenchs as being so underrated. I should have elaborated, I sure wasn't condeming the wrench. I thought someone had done some extra engraving

Elroy, I picked one up at the pawn show last week that looks just like that except it's a 1/4" x 5/16".Mine is kinda rough. I got 4 Craftsman wrenches and 6 Craftsman Allen wrenches for $2. I was gonna get Sears to swap it for a new one but now I think I'll keep it.
