Recently found this vise welded to a 1" thk steel plate - covered in grunge. Cut the tack welds and got the vise off. Did not realize just how messed up this was until I cleaned it up. At some point it had broke and then been brazed. Cleaned it up - ground the brazing where it was interfering with the closing of the jaws. While it will certainly not win any beauty contests it is still a usable 3" vise that will find a place on my bench. Certainly better than tossing it.20230102_125617.jpg20230102_125621.jpg20230102_125630.jpg

Yes that braze is ugly, but like you say, should make a great little user. I'd be happy to own it. Good save, better than the scrapper!

Michigan And Florida too!
I'm guessing you won't be afraid of going hog wild with it. Think of it like the first big scratch or dent on a new pickup.!

I inherited this from my father or grandpa and it's never let me down.

The irony has always made me smile when I pull it out.

I am glad to hear that your ole boy is going back to work!
and I assume that you are not going to paint it some ghastly effeminate color with high lights :ROFLMAO: (my apologies to Karen for that comment)

Well - found another issue with this little guy. Went to mount it and the bottom of the darn thing is not flat - rocks about 1/16" side-to-side.
Now - I could just shim it, easy way, or I can stick it on the mill and mill it flat. Decisions, decisions.
