UPDATE all drawers are out and its fully primed!!!!!! I have decided to make a brand new lid!

Well I have been wanting to restore a tool box for a long time and now i get the chance!

I found this little machinist's tool box thats in need of some work.

Its not a Kennedy, there's no manufacturers name or markings visible on the outside neither a COO anyone recognize the box?

here are some pictures

The first thing I wanted to do was get the drawers out and heres where I ran into my first dilemma

There are no tabs to get them out!

Does anyone here know how to get them out?

My plan is as follows

Take the drawers out
remove hardware
Strip the paint/felt out
Do the required metal working make brand new lid
paint
Re felt drawers
install hardware.

I hope you all enjoy vewing this restoration as much as enjoy doing it

That looks a lot like my Kennedy, but the slides are different. It looks like the slides are like Snap-on's. Take a hack saw blade, but a little bend in it and slip it back in behind the slide to see if it will release the drawer. Pull the drawer all of the way out, then push it in about 2 inches before you try to use the blade the release it. Good luck...

Those drawers seem to be in good shape. If you can find the same color hammertone paint then you could redo the rest of it and leave the drawers alone. That is a nice toolbox.

Wanted: Allen or Unbrako Forged T-handle Hex Keys.

That's weird, I haven't heard a mention of Unbrako for years and years. In another thread someone was asking for recommendations for "a set of Allen/ Hex Keys". Just tonight I was going through my old tool box and ran across my set of t-handle Unbrakos (not for sale) so I mentioned them in that thread, then I open this one a little while later and their it is in your signature, bizarre.

What about Unbrakos?

Nice box and size size to do a restoration on, I'm so tired of larger boxes and the space needed. Let's see something fancy, you've got that nice flat front panel, I'm going to suggest a Krusty the Clown themed box. Cover up those feet no one wants to see that.

UPDATE

so far on the box I have stripped all the felt removed all the hardware removed 1 drawer slandblasted the front cover and the lid Removed some of the dent in the lid but so far the overall box is not too badly dammaged

Here are some crappy pictures of the refurbished hardware the pictures do not do the parts/shine justice!!!!! I could not remove all the pitting because it would remove the crome coating it expose a copper colour visible on ome of the pieces below. Ill figure a way to re crome the dammaged peices. All the small drawer pulls you see have a merrior finnish on them im trying to find a better way to picture them.

Here the polish I was using Nuvite Nu shine grads G5 and S ( G5 pictured)

IMHO nuvite the best metal polishing compounds out there I was introduced to it in the aircraft industry and it has saved my *** a few times. but at 60$ a half pound its not cheep!

when it's time, have you thought about powder coating the box? There are some really good hammertone finishes available.

Im going with spraying because i can get it done free and im not worried about a hammertone finnish ive got somthing cool in mind
