AB Powerflex 4 VFD Question

Lesson: Never rush a CL Deal.

I was running around NW AR last night and on the way to dinner I snapped up a brand new (with CD, manuals, etc) VFD that I found on Craigslist on my smartphone while getting gas. Quick deal, great seller - all good.

At dinner a creeping feeling came over me. I had looked at the Powerflex 4 line a year ago and I remembered that some of the drives were 3-phase input. Sure enough I opened my trunk in the dark and my "deal" was a 400v 3p Input AB 22A-D8P7N104.

So much for plans to match it with my new Baldor 2hp 3ph motor and build a $150 belt grinder running off of 220, 1p. My hobby shop has neither 3p nor 460v currently. I have a RPC to gen 3p for my lathe and a wheel grinder, but it was too expensive to keep my 3p service from the power company (and I never had 400v).

So I need to explore my options here:
1. I know that I can try and sell or swap this drive out for something like a Powerflex 4 22A-A8P0N104 with 1p input. I don't know if I would get my $70 back out of it....
2. Is there anything I can do with this drive in my present environment? The low end input voltage is 380...
3. Could a fellow swap out the internals of this with a 1p AB PF 4 that had a bad case (like an ebay purchase)?

Any comments are welcome, even if its just to say what an idiot I am. I was thinking more about dinner than I was the transaction.

Thank you all

I agree you will have to replace the transformer to get the I/O at the right voltage. You will have to replace the circuit boards and probably replace all internal wiring with bigger wire as 400v uses less amps than 240.

OK, thank you. I put a call in to a facility maintenance electrician who does freelance work near me to ask about a unit swap-ski for one of the 8amp 1p drives. I don't know if he will need a "gray market" drive or not (but if he doesn't no one will).

I will entice him with one of the new motors I got cheap from Stroh's in Oakarche to sweeten the swap.

I might be interested in the drive I have a few of them and I have 3 phase 480 so that's a drive I can use. Do you know if it works??
