The thread about the toolbox abandoned at an apartment got me thinking back to something that I experienced almost 15 years ago....
I was working my first mechanic job. It was in the city, super high turnover rate. I stayed there about 18months. Part way through my time there they hired another tech who lasted less than 6 months. Can't remember if he quit or got fired.
He left behind a 6 drawer craftsman toolbox that looked like this.
Manager threw it in the back storage room and called him weekly to come pick it up. 6 months go by and I ask the manager, "hey, did that guy ever get his box?" He told me nope, it's legally abandoned now. You want it?
I said sure and I took it home. It was pretty empty other than some misc wire and **** connectors.
I realized I didn't have much use for it at home so I brought it back a couple days later. Didn't really need the room because I didn't have many tools, but I loaded it up with some snap-on hammers and screwdrivers. When I was first loading it up to bring it home I noticed there was an ex-assistant manager (fired, very bad terms) up front BSing with a service writer. Didn't think much of it. Come to find out, he calls the ex-tech to tell him I took his box(that he had abandoned for 6 months.) Ex-tech comes to the shop on a Saturday and takes his toolbox with all my tools in it. Manager calls him and says he can keep the toolbox but needs to return my tools. Ex-tech ignores all his calls.
What happened next I won't go into detail about, but it prompted the ex-tech to return to the shop, sneak onto the shop computer to look up some employees' home addresses and then go into a fit of rage about beating some people up before eventually leaving, having done nothing.
Many years later, he showed up on my facebook as a friend suggestion.
