I would like to add about 6 or 8 four foot flourecent lights on their own circuit, but I would like to be able to use pull chains to only turn on the ones I want, is this possible?

Yes, that is possible as long as each fixture has its own pull chain, unless you connect multiple fixtures to one switch. All fixtures on one switch must be on the same circuit. Fixtures on different circuits need at least one switch for each of the circuits. If you are running conduit, why not install a standard switch in a box on the wall. That way you don't have to worry about overloading a small pull switch (you did not state the rating of the pull switch-some may not handle all your fixtures.)

It wont be in conduit, just running the wire through the rafters, I didnt really want to wire a switch in the wall for each light. Im gonna search and see what type of pull chain switches are availabe. Worse come to worse, I can put a wall switch by the panel box to control all the lights I guess. Thanks for your help.

you can buy 4' fixtures with a pull chain already on them at home depot then you only have to run a line to each one and put in an outlet where you want your lights

Easy enough to add a pull chain switch to a light fixture, drill a hole about 3/8" in the end or side in a place where there is room enough for the switch body inside and wire nut it up. Those switches won't handle over one fixture each. Switches are about three bucks at Home Depot.

4' shop lights with pull chains are $18 each at Lowes. I've used a ton of them with good results. In the old shop there were 12 switched in 2 banks, all with pull chains so I could run as few or as many as I wanted.

Thanks for the help, I will look at Lowes to see what they have there. I only need about 6 or 8 and would like all of them switched with the pull chain instead of wiring switches in the walls for each, and I dont want to wire a bunch of outlets to plug them into in the ceiling. Thanks again
