About to Epoxy garages, quick question about baseboards

Hi All,

I am about to epoxy my garage space... actually hiring it out, due to lack of time... my house was built in 02, and garage sits below the foundation about an inch... currently there are wooden baseboards in the garages...

I'm debating on whether to leave the baseboards and paint them VS. remove baseboards and replace with something that I could epoxy?

there is currently about a 1/8 inch gap between baseboards and garage floor, presumably, to prevent baseboards from rotting as garage floor sweats..

I should add, that i'm also going to add an ac vent to garage tying into existing system...

obviously, the epoxy baseboard would essentially waterproof the garage?

curious to get some your thoughts on what is best

What are you looking to do in the garage that you want it 'waterproofed'. Are you going to be flooding the floor by washing cars inside the garage? Serious question...

If you have a floor that consistently 'sweats', epoxy may not be a good choice for your application. I'm sure the floor coating guys will chime in.

On a related note, how exactly are you going to just add a register to your current HVAC? Are you sure system is capable of cooling/heating an the additional square footage? A garage is not a small space. Also, how will this air get returned to the HVAC system? Running ducts to garages off the main homes' HVAC violates code in most municipalities because of the chance of circulating carbon monoxide throughout the home. Are you sure you are permitted to do this?

thanks for replies... the folks that built our house went crazy building this house... so my house has 5 AC units... garages are on the basement level, and the basement remains very cool for the most part...the unit dedicated to the basement is never run, and the duct work for the basement conveniently runs right by the garage, so the plan is to add a vent to the garage and use the unit to cool garage... have a nest thermometer and will add temp sensing unit in garage to tell the thermostat to regulate based off garage temp.

should have mentioned that i'm planning to convert garage to workshop (wood etc)... the other thing these folks did was have 5 garages.. this is the 5th garage... i'm leaving the insulated garage door, and adding a row of insulated windows to it, to allow some natural light.... the epoxy floor is mainly intended to give it a cleaner look, and i've always liked the look of the baseboards being epoxied, and i can convert to car garage later, or the next owner of the home can...

5 garages!? Either this place is baller status or one of those weird redneck palaces where everything is jerry-rigged and janky. We need pics to make a determination...

Be careful about trying to use that HVAC from the house to cool the garage. I'm not sure if it is just a return line that is a no-no based on pulling carbon monoxide into the home or if any ducting that is connected back to the home is not allowed. I imagine it is the latter since running a line with no return for that space would them probably go against code for HVAC.
