I would like to run a 110v feed from garage to storage shed [just for some lights] about 45 feet away..External overhead about 15 feet high..Is there a UV protected wire that can support itself that I can use? Under ground is not an option..Thanks, Seb..

wyliesdiesels thanks for wire type and Mwalke64 for the links to attaching..Is #12 wire enough for the 45' run? Could I run the Triplex down the outside of the garage to the level of the existing 110v GF protected circuit I am planning to tie into so I don't have to deal with top plate and wall insulation and be direct shot to inside receptical box for tie in? Proper way [simplest] to get the wire into the building's walls, pvc box or? Thanks some more! Seb..

If you plan on installing individual conductors, (2014 NEC 225.6)
For 1000 volts, nominal, or less, 10 AWG copper or 8 AWG aluminum for spans up to 15 m (50 ft) in length, and 8 AWG copper or 6 AWG aluminum for a longer span unless supported by a messenger wire

Triplex doesn't come in wire sizes as small as #12.

I suspect you will not find any type of service entrance cable smaller than 6 ga. Far larger than you need for your power requirement for lighting at the 45 foot distance.

It sounds like you want to tie into an existing 20 Amp GFCI receptacle in your garage. Doing this with any type of entrance cable will not be a low cost, practical solution, and will require transition boxes.

If all you need is lighting, it may be more practical and lower cost to consider a solar panel and battery with some inside LED lighting, since this is just for a shed.

You did say that underground is not possible but if it could be done, you could use UF Romex, 12 ga.

Easy peasy... UF cable is allowed by the NEC for aerial if sunlight rated. You do need a messenger wire, but obviously steel cable is dirt cheap. I would consider if you ever might want to put something like an air compressor at the shed or run something off the shed due to it's location. If so, running /3 with a MWBC instead of /2 may not be a bad idea, as it'd give you double the amperage for not much more money.

Justsam you have a good point about a solar unit and the cost [size] of the entrance cable..ishiboo I can get SS cable and clamps pretty much for not so that and uv rated cable would be the the more power option...Thanks to all for help and how to's, much appreciated..Seb.
