Abused Matco ratchet

This has been on craigslist by me for a while.





Wants $165 at a pawnshop. I'd say its been abused a little. Its 1/2" drive with like a 24"handle.

I get a little chuckle each time I see the ad, just wondering what the pawnshop was into them for, if thats what they're asking for them.

New off the MATCO truck that ratchet lists for $251.40.

I've seen those used ratchets go for $100 fairly often. $165 is pretty high for very used.

So as someone pointed out they go for 251.40 and if a person could pick up one used for 50% off that would bring it down to a market price of $125.70 dollars.

The pawn shop wants $165.00 dollars for one in rough shape or $39.30 over the cost of a used one on the open market.

I wonder how much they gave the person for it in the first place?

When you take into account that you put this ratchet into service and use it, break it, and get a brand new one from warranty... $165 ain't bad!

There shouldn't be a warranty for that ratchet; it's been abused too much.

That puts the drivers cost around $130-ish.Offer $150 cash and grab a new one if you buy some other items. MSRP and hand tools mean squat, That's pricing to stick it to students and the pay by the week types. The industrial brands like Armstrong and Proto are jacked through the roof for the govt contracts.Reminiscent of the old $75 fork and spoon stories, which were-are true.Pawn shop guys try to use it as a guideline TO SELL> Naturally they give the brokeass mechanic $25 since he thinks he'll go back and get it next payday....... when the Snappy driver, Mac driver and wifey are on his ***...then the transmission falls out of the clunker.Then a MUST HAVE worlds first !!! gets announced. Bye Bye ratchet.

I don't have a lot of experience with pawn shops but they seem to always overprice things so you can negotiate them down.

I don't know what percentage of new price they would allow on pawn, but I am betting it is less then 20%.

most pawn shops offer 10-15% of ebay selling prices after ebay fees

if it sells for 100 on ebay thats 85ish after fees, pawn shop offers 10-15 bucks tops
