AC for small space, zone 2A.

Building a small out building. 10' X 8', one 3.0 door, no windows. Insulated at R 15 in walls and R 20 roof, well sealed(zip wall panels, fluid applied flashing on seams, 3/8" rain screen gap, then probably LP SilverTech).

Want to keep it dry in there, cool-ish(does not have to cool to 68 degrees when it is 95 degrees outside) in summer. A heater would be OK but not necessary.

The space is so small that it is hard to not over size. I see LG has an inverter window unit but I can't find out how well it would dehumidify.

Would consider thru wall, or window style, or even split unit(tho cost does matter).

Any ideas on options?

Lg art cool premier 9000 BTU mini split can modulate down all the way to 1,023 BTU both heating and cooling. That's the lowest modulating unit I know of. Just about anything else is going to be too big for that space, especially with it being tight and reasonably well insulated...

I would get a smallest window AC possible like 5kbtu and try it.

Around $140 everyday everywhere, down to $100 on sale.

There may be imperfect results due to such a small space and humid climate, but probably would be fine... and for the $ invested, definately I would try it.

Especially in your humid area, the fact your building is well sealed is a huge plus.

A friend of mine is cooling an upstairs wine room with some sort of chiller. I believe it has an inverter and an outdoor compressor just like a mini split.

Trying to find a text message with the brand. I know it was expensive but I believe that was mostly due to the long and complicated line set install they had to do. Also, the company that sold it to him and installed it is expensive.

I believe the LG inverter window unit is large and doesn't modulate down nearly as much as their smaller mini splits.

Friend's split system is WhisperKool. Not sure what size he has but it's definitely a split system.

They have through wall type units as well. Claim to be fine for 300 cubic feet (I assume you're closer to 400 cubic feet) but one of the models I clicked on is rated at 1400 something BTU per hour at 85 degrees.

That's not as low as the LG mini split mentioned early, assume their BTU rating is also at 85 degrees.

The LG mini split may also have a dedicated dry mode. Not sure about the wine cellar chiller.

Probably a great product, but I would try the $100 option first at 1/40th the cost.

I guess I missed a smaller selfcontained unit at $1800, but here's an interesting excerpt from the site -

"The SC has a 30°F temperature differential. In order to keep your cellar at 55°F, the area the unit exhausts into should not exceed 85°F."

So, is there something about these units that they MUST exhaust into 85 max, or is it just talking about IF you need to cool to 55?

I'm sure with a quick phone call they can tell you how well it would work for OP application.
