I'm going have a mini split AC/heat unit installed. My garage is 640 sqft with a ceiling height of 8.5' and faces southeast Will a 18k BTU unit get the job done?

I plan on insulating the garage doors as well.

Thanks.

When you get it in, let me know how it works out. Thats the next project if I ever finish the current mini-split.

I have a 3 car facing due South in East Orlando. I put in the garage door insulation kit, but I have plenty of light spilling around the doors so the next step would be to figure out how to get it to seal better. The insulated door makes a dramatic difference that I didn't expect.

With an insulated door and walls and attic yes that unit should do fine down in winter garden.

Rick

Thanks Rick. The attic and doors are insulated but my walls are concrete block.

I just had a mitsubishi 18K installed and love it. After doing all kinds of research I definitely found out that brand X 18k unit is not the same as brand Y. My bonus room is less sq ft than that, but very hot with black shingles. After running it, I am glad I went with the mitsubishi and the inverter system. It will slow down the compressor when the room reaches within 4 degrees of desired temp and also has a dehumififier (drying) setting. Then when the unit starts, it does a slow start (not sure of the proper term) instead of slamming the compressor on full tilt. Hell, I even had trouble hearing the outdoor unit run once the room was close to the set temp.

A little update. My 24K BTU unit and door insulation kit will be here Wednesday.

My HVAC installer installs these regularly and is licensed to do the electrical as well. Hopefully I can get him out here sometime next week for the install.

Until next time.

Well apart from the pros, the best i can think of is its going to be keeping the atmosphere around you quite cold.

is there a split that can cool a space 30' x 40' x 12' ceiling. I have a split unit in another smaller building. It does just fine. - Tom

Update.

There has been a small hiccup due to the shipping company flattening the corner of the condenser like a pancake.:lol_hitti

The damaged unit was picked up and a new unit is in transit. The wall bracket is on back order until Tuesday and still waiting for the line set cover kit to arrive.

I'll post pics of the install once completed.
