AC suggestions

I should have done this when I built my garage a few years back. But I didn't. Now I'm thiking of putting some AC in my garage. It's 1200sq/ft with 12' ceilings. Three garage doors. I have a cplof windows that allow a nice breeze to flow through. But this time of years it gets pretty hot. What I should have done was build the gerage with a hole in the wall for a window ac to help cool it in the summer. So what would some options to try and cool it now? Could I build a support structure up high to mount an ac and vent everything out the soffits?? How big a unit would I need?? I figure 18-22K BTU.

Thoughts/suggestions ??

Some of the new heat pumps made by Mitsubsihi and Panasonic (to name a few) are pretty efficient and require minimum holeage to install.

I am considering one. A friend of mine put one in his shop and it is awesome.

You could get a 24K and just go ahead and cut the hole. That's what I'm doing this weekend for a "converted" 10K window unit. If I'd put in 2-0x4-0 windows during the build instead of 2-0x3-0, I could just stick it in a window. Oops. My space really needs a 15K per the charts, but I have the 10 and plenty of fans - it'll be good 'nuff. I just have to saw a 16 3/8 x 22 1/4 hole in my new building.

FWIW - I don't think there will be enough convection in your attic to move the heat out from the AC. They put out a LOT of heat. My attic area is well vented with 10 soffit vents and 5 round static vents sitting on 10" holes near the ridge. The attic has insulation. It works, because in the early AM after a really hot day it can be cooler up there than in the main area. However, when I power up that 1600 CFM vent fan that pulls fumes out of the work area, I can feel air coming back down in certain places on the ceiling and edges. Bottom line - pumping a lot of heat up there would surely drive more heat down into the work space. So I'm sawing a hole in the north side wall and let that heat go down the alley.
